    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was very informative. As a Computer Science student, I would have loved to hear more technical details about the work that this company does, however, this placement wasn't exclusively for computer science students and therefore it is understandable why they didn't focus on technical details. Other than that, the week was very well organized and we were provided with a great overview of how Barclays works, what roles are available and the overall culture of the Radbroke Hall office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Barclays make you feel extremely valued. They make a big point in making people feel welcome and wanted. They provided us with amazing accommodation and it was obvious that they put a lot of effort into planning this programme. Many of the senior managers regularly came to talk to us, to tell us more about the work at this company and answer our questions. This really made us feel valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the week, we had three supervisors and at least two of them were present at all times, ready to answer any questions we may have. We also had work shadowing sessions where we would spend between two and three hours together with a Barclays employee working in our field of interest. They would show and explain their work and it really made us understand what exactly we want to do in this industry.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although we did have a seminar on leaders and followers and a CV/interview workshop, I couldn't say we developed any significant skills. The insight was more about an introduction to Barclays and a possible future with them. This information was invaluable and now I have a much better idea about what I would like to do after I graduate, however, it will now help in my further studies, only after I graduate.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was structured very well. It was very intense and all of us were very exhausted after each day, but I see that only as a positive thing as we felt that we were really pushed to our limits and were able to take the most from it. The only negative part would be lack of information about the bus schedule. It would often be released only the night before.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Amazing. Most of the interns were smart, friendly and fun and it was a pleasure working with them. The senior workers were incredibly friendly. I was expecting a certain amount of arrogance because of how high up these people were, but that was definitely not the case! They were very helpful and friendly and created an awesome atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Quite well. They gave us work shadowing sessions where we would work with senior Barclays employees and get to see the actual work they do. I would have loved more technical training, but other than that I think we were provided with a quite good insight. I think they invested in me fairly well.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This was probably the main part of the week. We developed a great understanding of how the company works, what the atmosphere is like, what the career options are, what the possible roles are. I am definitely going to apply for a full time position when I graduate because this company made me feel at home.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Quite a lot. Barclays really take a lot of pride in their core values and their company culture so they emphasized it from day one. We also had a lot of informal chats with current employees and heard a lot of fun and interesting stories about the work culture and how they get along.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I would say that it was very helpful. I really enjoyed talking with the employees because they were very fun, smart and interesting. I also found the technologies that Barclays work on to be very exciting and interesting and I would love to be a part of it. Therefore it helped me decide my career path a lot.
