About You
I really enjoyed the insight, I learnt a lot and met some great people both people who work at Barclays and also my internship colleagues. The week is very well structured and gives a great insight to the division of technology within Barclays. The internship focuses mainly on skills sessions with a range of areas in technology at Barclays such as cyber security, solutions architect, business analysts, developers etc and also the opportunity to work on a group presentation project. The site here is absolutely incredible
I felt quite valued during my time at Barclays, the programme really invests in you and your personal development and Barclays make it clear that they want you and want to invest in your future. Everyone is more than willing to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. The depth of the programme and how well prepared it is shows that Barclays is a company which does really value its interns
The graduate recruitment team are happy to answer any questions you may have about any element of the Spring program but you don't really need any guidance or support because of how well structured the programme is. Guidance and support provided by the people who work here at Barclays is amazing and they will give you as much support as you require.
The Company
The general atmosphere was great, friendly but very focused and co-operative with everyone wanting to take as much as possible out of the Spring Insight week. The relationship between interns and graduate recruits was great too. The balance between work and play was great also, when we would go back to the hotel at night we all went to the pool/spa/sauna a few times to relax and then all went and ate tea together. An atmosphere like that really helps you settle any nerves and feel comfortable to get the most out of the week
Everything Else
Barclays pay £250 to cover any expenses incurred but there are no expenses! Barclays arrange coach travel to and from the hotel every day to the Radbroke site, you have £7.50 credit to spend on lunch every day and £15 credit to spend on evening meal at the hotel and all meals are around £15. Barclays also reimburse the cost of travel. I think I have spent £10 of my own money all week
Yes plenty, a networking breakfast, lunch and evening throughout the week. You have the opportunity to meet and talk to a lot of people who work here and really get a feel for the diverse range of roles here within tech at Barlcays. Everyone is really friendly, informative and passionate and are happy to exchange contact details on Linkedin for further questions/networks.
Yes there are football matches and things like that but I am not too sure about anything else.
I would, but you must be clear about whether you want to do technology. If not then apply for the functions (HR, marketing, finance etc) internship which is based at the London office. I didn't actually realise that Barclays offer more than one internship and so I thought that it can't be purely technical because they wouldn't do their only internship on tech, but I was wrong and they offer more than one. I would say 85% is focused on technology within Barclays. Don't get me wrong, it has been a great week and I have learnt so much even though it is not the area I want to work in. Do some research and actually find out which spring internship you want to do based on your interests and passions. If you are doing the spring week because you want a summer internship you need to consider that you will be based at the Radbroke site and whether that is feasible or not.
