About You
I thought the insight week was a great opportunity for me to gain a greater understanding into the life at Barclays. The week was overall very enjoyable and worthwhile. It was filled with a very full schedule of lectures, group projects, activities, and networking events. It was a five day programme with a final interview for the summer internship.
Employees at Barclays were extremely friendly and treated every one of the interns as if we were employees. Senior members of staff were willing to give up their time to speak with us, demonstrating just how valuable the values here at Barclays were. I do think greater exposure to day to day roles.
Guidance on next steps was good. However, guidance + acquiring knowledge on what a Summer intern might do and what their responsibilities are were not as well covered. I do with there was more focus on the potential roles that would be available in the summer and the potential career paths.
Through the two work shadowing sessions and the several workshops that I participated in, I received invaluable feedback on how I should improve on my technical knowledge and personal development. I improved my leadership skills, team work, communication skills as well as increased my overall commercial awareness. Overall I am happy.
The Company
Extremely well structured – there were a few moments when there is nothing happening or nothing to be working on but that's not anyone's fault. If anything speakers may have spoke for too long/short. An improvement could be to print out a daily timetable for the week with activities and times so it is always very easy to know.
It was a great atmosphere and you know you are working with the best. That is the best students from across the world, the best open API team, the best facilities and the best tech teams! The atmosphere and the mentorship culture make me want to be a part of the firm.
Barclays really took time to invest in us, and this really showed in the way they organised the day, making sure we are improving and learning, as well as building good rapport with others. I believe that if I receive the summer internship I will be able to learn much more and improve very quickly in this fast-paced yet friendly environment
Barclays was very informative in showing us all around the tech campus and the opportunities available. The Networking dinner. held also allowed us to glimpse some of the charitable works and diversity groups within the firm. The employees I spoke to were also frank about what their daily routines were at the firm, and I felt that I gained invaluable insights from the conversations held.
Helps alot.
The whole week was extremely informative. The programme touched upon all the available divisions in Front Office which, whilst brief, was enough for myself at least to decide which areas I was more interested in, and also what area my skill set would be best suited to. I will definitely pursue technology.
Everything Else
Reimbursed for travel and given an allowance.
There were many opportunities to network with the senior employees as well as the juniors from every division at Knutsford. I also work shadowed and therefore had a chance to network with the person I shadowed a lot. However, my preference was QA and did not find many QA people to talk to, but that was the only downside.
Networking dinners
Yeah we found out the charity events that take place in Knutsford.
Definitely. I would say even if you are not very interested in technology, still take your time to apply to Spring Weeks as it really shows you what it is really like, and you will learn a lot more about different divisions in banking than you already know and this could easily change your mind.
