About You
It was a great insight into the world of technology and the impact of technological developments transforming the financial world. I really enjoyed all the presentations and insight sessions delivered by experts in the field. Further, the shadowing sessions with graduates were really engaging and was a great learning opportunity.
During the period of the Spring Internship, we were allowed to engage with individuals from the graduate level all the way till the Managing Director level. This allowed me to actually feel as an integral part of the great teams at the bank. It was exceptional to see the how welcoming everyone was, making each of us feel like a part and spending time understanding us and our interests.
I was provided a lot of guidance over the period of my week at Barclays. During the work shadowing sessions, I was provided support from the graduates around to understand the work undertaken on a regular day-to-day basis. Further, I was provided a deeper insight into the field of my interest.
I indicated an interest in the field of Cyber Security and Data Intelligence, and was efficiently guided through various career paths presented in the field, by graduates as well as senior executives. The skills and information developed in the process shall assist me to make an informed decision with regard to my career path in the future.
The Company
The insight was very well planned and executives by the Human Resources Department of the bank. I was given a chance to comprehend how the work of the department of Technology integrated into the different Financial Services provided to customers. I really enjoyed the opportunity to indulge with professionals from both the technical as well as the non-technical roles within Technology.
During the period of my insight, the general atmosphere of the firm was a positive learning sphere, where everyone paid attention towards the development of all graduates. Further, I believe I was treated by a friendly group of professionals, who took time out of their busy schedules to provide us an insight into their work.
The firm spent the time of its busy and experienced professionals to brief us about the various roles provided for within the department of Technology. The bank also allowed us to interact with senior executives in more of an informal setting during various networking events organised over the course of the week
The insight scheme helped me understand the various opportunities that lie within the world of technology. I was able to discover how my qualifications complemented with my interest in the field of technology, would suitably fit into roles within the bank. Further, I believe this insight helped my understanding of what my future prospects at the firm would be.
It was surprising to see how welcoming everyone was, making each and everyone, feeling like a part of the bigger picture. As a result of speaking with senior executives, I understood the importance attached by the bank to its core values and how it is integrated into the regular bank functions.
Over the period of the insight program, I was introduced to the work pattern that follows within the bank. I also was provided an insight into the different functions of the bank and hence was effectively shall be able to make a more informed choice with regard to my career path in the future.
Everything Else
I was paid and adequately reimbursed expenses that I incurred, as a result of the Technology Spring Week at Barclays Bank. The bank provided us a beautiful set of serviced apartments from the 8th till the 13th of April 2018. We were also compensated for the travel from our university locations to the accommodation and return
Based on the different presentations rendered by top-notch professionals, I understood that the firm attaches a great deal of importance to the idea that graduates are allowed to attend meeting and other discussion events or conferences with employees from other firms, as it would positively contribute to their experience of development
The social networking events were very exciting, thereby allowing each of us to engage in an informal discussion setting with professionals from different aspects of the technology sphere. It was a great opportunity to engage with professionals from diverse technical as well as non-technical backgrounds and understood what different skill sets can bring to the table
While I gained an opportunity into the work that employees undertaken over the course of their day-to-day activities, I was also able to understand how employees could get involved in activities for charitable purposes or any form of sport activities. Graduates from various departments, indicated that other than the traditional work, there is an option to indulge in other activities.
I would strongly recommend the insight program at Barclays Bank to everyone in my age group, irrespective of being from a non-technical background. I would suggest that everyone must experience the diverse activities explored by the bank in the field of Technology. The field welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds to form a successful career in this area.
