    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The week gave you an opportunity to work shadow a certain desk in your chosen business area which allowed you to network, ask questions and find out about all the various desks that was really interesting. It's a little annoying not having access to an email etc as means you sometimes have nothing to do whilst your team are busy.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone I spoke to was open to talking about their area and their experiences/background no matter how busy they were. No question felt too stupid to be asked and I learnt a lot from interacting with my team and others on the floor. My buddy/team helped ensure I got to talk to a variety of people from other desks.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I feel I would have appreciated a bit more guided learning as an intern group; such as the case study on a M+A transaction as that was super helpful in explaining not only the technical aspects but also the rationale behind the key decisions and methods. HR were supportive in answering question and my desk team were great at explaining what was going on in their deals.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skill I developed most was networking with those around me, both with the other interns and employees. I think this will help me in my degree through asking questions more frequently and how to better utilize the support offered.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I personally didn't like the structure of some of the lunch and dinner talks as it was difficult to hear/absorb all the information whilst also eating. The work shadowing wasn't as structured which I liked as it offered you a more realistic of a typical work environment and encouraged you to network with other desks as well as your own.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone I met was friendly and open to talking to you and answer all questions. There wasn't an apparent pressure to impress and the atmosphere was natural. The non stop nature of the programme was really fun, if tiring, and it offered you a more rounded idea of what life at Citi would be like.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My team invested a lot of time into answering my questions and explaining to me different aspects of their job. People at desks I wasn't assigned to were also really helpful in giving me an idea of their area and function of the desk. My recruiter was also really helpful in giving me advice and guidance.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Getting to work shadow for a week is an experience you wouldn't be able to get in any other way and the programme really immersed you into the work and life at Citi. As you were only on one desk you had to make sure yourself that you were mixing with other areas to gain a more rounded view of what a full time role is like.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • There was a presentation on the company and the culture at Citi. Also there was on about CSR and how this is manifested in Citi. I think the best way to understand this was actually experiencing it during work shadowing, I found this really helpful in understanding the dynamics.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Getting to work shadow in an area of interest to me was really helpful in giving me experience of the various roles and responsibilities. I think being able to ask questions to those early on in their careers was really helpful as well as it helped me develop a clearer insight about my career path.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The hotel provided was close to the office so no need to take the tube etc. Expenses to and from London were also reimbursed in full. Most meals were provided during the week anyway and those that weren't are also reimbursed. Even though you aren't paid for the week it also doesn't cost you anything which is fair for an insight programme.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The whole week was essentially one big networking event. You were always being introduced to new people and people would always answer your questions. There were junior and senior networking events held in the evening that were really fun and offered the chance for more formal networking to take place.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The junior networking provided the opportunity to learn more about internships and recruitment, and to get advice regarding the first steps of your career. This event was a lot less formal. I think the senior networking provided more insight into career progression at Citi and how your career could develop at the firm.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The only opportunities mentioned to us were the chances to volunteer and the charity work at Citi. Apart from that nothing else was really covered, however the nature of the job has a lot of hours etc so its not really conjunctive to having a lot of opportunities outside of work necessarily.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes. The insight meant I was able to learn about the various functions in a business area a lot easier than if I had to research online myself. Also getting the chance to ask questions and learn from people already in the industry is so unique. The programme allowed you to build up a network both at Citi but also of peers.
