About You
The insight was really fun. I got to participate in lots of group exercises like Debate Mate, talks, projects and meetings. Everyone was really friendly and everyday was different. I got the chance to work on lots of projects and loved the responsibility. The work varied from coding to presentations.
I felt incredibly valued. My buddies were extremely friendly and the team was also very welcoming. What I really appreciated was the senior managers taking time out of their busy days to talk to us, sometimes for hours! the work I was given to do also showed they trusted me to do a good job
I got so much advice during my time here! everyone was more than happy to sit with me and chat about their jobs and let me question them for half an hour or shadow their work. I was constantly reminded there is no such thing as a silly question and I felt comfortable asking for help.
what I loved was that Nomura focused on soft skills too. They invited Debate Mate who taught us how to voice our opinions and be confident when debating. I learnt valuable skills like networking and making eye contact - these are all things that you can transfer to any job, not just here.
The Company
There was a clear timetable that told you where you had to go and when. My buddy was also kind enough to make me my own timetable relevant to my division. However, you were also given the freedom to book your own shadows and experiment with your time to how you see fit.
Excellent. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. I've created a great network and will miss the people. I didn't feel nervous talking to anyone as everyone was so genuine and nice and wanted to help. Even thes seniors took out time to read tour CV and apply it when talking to you.
I think the company spent a lot of time on us. Everyone took time out of their day to talk to me and answer my questions. They even focused on soft skills by taking us to Debate Mate and giving us other exercises. It really showed how they wanted to retain us.
Everyone I met gave me a good idea of their journey into he company and what their daily life is like. They also gave us plenty of information on the different pathways available and how they differ so we knew all of our options. I would say I have a good idea of the different teams and what it would be like to be a graduate or a BA.
Everyone seemed to love the culture and was happy to talk about the link with Japan and how it effects how the company works. The atmosphere was also incredibly warm, but it wasn't something that you were told unless asked.
The timetables had a lot of content in the day and nearly everyday I had back to back sessions with people. I was also given the freedom to book sessions I personally thought were interesting. This allowed me to get a broad range of experience of the company and decide where I would maybe like to work.
Everything Else
I was paid and reimbursed travel for the first and last day.
I had back to back sessions with plenty of employees and even the freedom to book any more that interested me.
They were quite fun and enjoyable, food was good and a great opportunity to meet the other girls in different departments and catch up. Not as helpful as all the other events though.
The employees get involved in many activities! I heard about several clubs that Nomura has such as running, chess, public speaking, baking etc. There are also paid days off work where you can go help out at a charity event! Everyone has loads of opportunities to get involved in things.
Yes! It has been a fantastic experience and I've loved every day here. My team has been incredibly supportive and I hope to come back soon!
