About You
I really enjoyed the insight. Everyone I met was very friendly, and the programme gave me the opportunity to meet like-minded girls my age, with whom I saw almost daily and could share details about our experiences, so we got an idea of what the company was like outside our particular division.
We were treated with lots of independence to arrange shadows in any division and were welcome to attend any employee events, such as the weekly evening drinks on the terrace. The people I shadowed were happy to answer all of my questions and gave me honest advice and opinions on what I asked about.
Everyone was assigned a buddy who met us on the first day and helped us settle into the company. My manager asked me what I wanted to achieve from the experience and tailored the tasks I was given according to my interests and ability. The graduate recruitment contact, Lani, was also always happy to have a chat if we had any questions.
I gained a great insight into what working in the division was like, which will help me to decide what kind of career I might like to follow in the future. I've also gained a huge amount of confidence in terms of talking to new people and being able to send an email someone I've never met in order to find out about their career.
The Company
The programme was structured well with compulsory talks to attend but also lots of free time to spend within your assigned team or to shadow people in other parts of the business. Everyone was very friendly and willing to answer questions, and were all very willing to chat for half an hour about the work that they did.
Very welcoming, relaxed and everyone was very friendly and willing to help. Everyone I asked to talk to was happy to spend some time talking to me. All the members of the team got on well together and invited me along to their coffee chats and took me out for a pub lunch on my last day
It is difficult to learn much from a two week experience but my team were all happy to help me when I had questions, and there were many online resources that I was able to learn from, some of which was provided before starting at the company. We all received training when we started too.
Being able to shadow many people from many divisions meant that I was able to get an idea of what the daily work was like for people in many different roles. The length of the programme meant that I was able to get a better view of what life is like in the company compared to what I would gain from a shorter programme.
Seeing the daily life of employees and what activities are available outside of work but still within the community was interesting.
It changed the view I had of certain divisions but also made me aware of what other divisions were available and might interest me. Being able to shadow so many different people has really helped me to decide what options are open to me, and what I might like to do in the future.
Everything Else
We were able to email anyone in the company and ask for time to chat or shadow them. There were also networking lunches arranged for us, where we met more senior members of the organisation, and talks by other employees, where there were opportunities after to chat and find out about their work.
Very enjoyable - nice food was provided at the lunch, and the farewell drinks provided another opportunity to get to know each other and our team. There were no barriers or limits to who in the company we could email and ask to shadow, which meant we could reach out to whoever we wanted to.
Yes - there is a gym, plenty of clubs/organisations within the firm (such as women in IT, choir, charity events, chess club, many sports clubs, coding dojo etc)
