About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my insight experience. The staff at EY were very approachable and everyone was happy to answer any questions we had for them. The insight required little prior knowledge about the company or industry and was helpful in informing me about each of the four service lines they have, in detail.
The staff at EY made a huge effort to make sure everyone had their questions answered and could get fully involved in all of the activies. We all wore name badges and the staff tried their best to learn our names and learn about us and what we wanted to gain out of the two days.
There were plenty of staff for the size of our group which meant that we had easy access to them when we had a question. The staff were from different service lines and all at different parts of their careers so we could really gaining support and guidance for short and long term goals.
The information I have received over these two days will go an extremely long way in helping me decide which programmes I would like to apply for in the future and ultimately what I would like to do once I have completed my degree. The presentation tips and advice we gained during the mock assessment centre has improved my confidence in speaking infront of groups.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with clear communication from EY about what we would be doing, when we would be doing it and what was expected from us. There were sufficient breaks during the day inbetween activities and we always had plenty of time to complete each task we were given.
The atmosphere during the insight was extremely open and friendly. The staff were very approachable and made it very easy to talk to them, no matter what level of EY they were at. There was a very flat hierarchy which was really useful for finding out not just about how the company is when you join but also how it continues to be a company that cares about their people.
The firm invested a lot of their time and resources into allowing us to all have access to this programme. From the speed networking where we could talk to plenty of people from all services areas to the panel Q & A with staff ranging from recent graduates to partners at the firm, there was a huge feeling that EY had invested in this experience for us.
We were able to talk to people from all services lines and ask any questions we had about anything from what they did day to day to the sorts of hours they worked and the levels of engagement they respectively had with clients. It might have been nice to have more of a look at the EY building and the offices in which the staff work.
The company culture was immediately clear even from the first presentation and the welcome. You could see straight away how well the staff knew each other and how well they worked together as a team. You get a real feeling of how much the company cares for all of its people.
Having access to staff from all of the different service lines at EY was really useful for me because it allowed me to try to work out where I would be suited and work well. Seeing the structure and support within the company made me want to join because they provided so many opportunities for their staff.
Everything Else
If you lived far enough away from the office, like me, you were put up in a hotel near the office not only during the event but also one evening prior to the event. As well as this, my trains from home to London were also paid for, along with food whilst attending the event.
Yes there were plenty of opportunities to meet other staff at the company. We attended a speed networking event which allowed us to talk to people from all of the department's within EY, as well as having table leaders which were from different areas. The interactive Q & A sections furthered the access to staff members.
The speed networking, as well as general networking opportunities were excellent allowing us to talk to all sorts of members of staff with all sorts of experiences, careers and backgrounds. There was a social event during the first evening, however, this was focused more on networking with the other people on the course instead of with multiple members of staff.
Through talking to members of staff, we could find out about the societies and social programmes that staff at EY run. Also, I found out how individual teams also have a lot of socialising with each other and how important it is to know your team and be able to work well with them.
Yes I would definitely recommend this insight opportunity to anyone who is unsure about what a professional services company does or simply wants to find out more about specific roles within them. It is also an excellent opportunity to find out more about the culture and the people that really make EY.
