About You
Overall, I enjoyed the Insight day even though I would have appreciated Insights into all Service Lines as opposed to only Tax and Assurance. Also, in comparison to other Insight Programmes the size of the group was rather large and maybe closer insights and networking would have been easier in a smaller group.
As the group size was very large, there wasn‘t a lot of individual attention. Still, once we were split in groups this improved. The company did show that they really appreciated our applications and wanted us to stay interested in EY. We also could ask our questions at any time.
The comany and employees were very open to questions and explained in much detail everything we wanted to know. We also were supported in the case study practice and preparation. In addition, wereceived support for our next possible steps with the comany and how to best proceed from now on.
The skills learned will be useful in some subjects, even though I would have enjoyed goint into more detail and the day to day practice of jobs. I feel many talks about the company‘s culture were appealing but not really useful, as these type of comments would be said by most employers to attract new staff.
The Company
The structure was great and there were enough breaks. The day was also varied and passed quickly. Still, inclusion of all service lines would have been even better as the interest for a line only develops after a first insight into what they actually do.
The athmosphere was very relaxed but still professional. At some times the large group size led to a lot of noise and made e.g. the networking rather stressful. Everyone was very friendly, open and easy to talk to. The location in the Hilton was quite well suited.
I feel that EY did really invest in this programme, but could benefit from focusing more on the individual as this would have persuaded me personally better of applying to an internship. It becomes apparent that Tax and Assurance require most employees but a focus on interests would be better.
There were good insights into many roles but again more variation would be great. I would also have appreciated openness and directness about the downsides of jobs, long hours and stress in the workplace. All in all in the neworking we were exposed to a broad range of roles.
Thecompany did speak extensively about its culture, but for me it is more important to actually experience it, and as the programm was not based in the office but another location there might have been less of a feeling of how the culture is on a day to day basis.
This insight day has given me new insights into tax and assurance, but I have not been persuaded fully of choosing this direction. However the information about TAS and advisory that we were given did spark my interest a lot and made me seriously consider applying in one of these areas.
