About You
I really really enjoyed the two day insight event, it gave me such a good flavour of what to expect if i chose to work for EY and cemented the positive things id heard about working for the company. It showed me how i don’t need to worry about my background to fit in at EY.
We were all encouraged to contribute and at no point did i feel like i couldnt. Every opinion voiced was respected and developed on and no question was useless. During the presentation we were asked for our opinions and it was great when after we finished a member of staff would develop on how it was a good point and they completely agree.
The table hosts were a brilliant idea and made me feel so supported. They were always there if we were uncertain on a task or just had some generic questions to ask about EY and taught me lots of things i didnt know before i came. They were very friendly too.
Im studying accounting and finance at university and it taught me what to expect in the future for my degree. It told me things that im excited to learn but also things that im quite nervous about getting too. It was reassuring when i heard about something i already knew but applied in the real world.
The Company
I am an extremely organised person and the organisation of this event made me happy. Everything appeared to stick to schedule (so if it didnt it was an amazing job of covering it up so congrats) and tasks flowed one from the other. I liked how there were different speakers to keep us entertained.
Everyone was really pleasant and always had a smile on their face. I didnt speak to one person who said they didnt enjoy the event. To be able to have it in such a brilliant event was an amazing experience for me, and quite contrasting considering im from the north.
They paid for my train ticket too and from the day, and paid for my accomodation in the hotel the event was at. I couldnt ask for any more. At every stage of the application process the staff were invested in helping us succeed which was extremely helpful in helping us succeed.
We were told in detail about all the different service sectors to offer at EY, and speaking to lots of different people at different departments at the networking event was so informative. The one thing i would say was at this networking the room was quite load so i found it quite difficult to hear what some people were saying.
I didnt realise how friendly and accepting EY are as a company. Having to work from the age of 14 ive experienced stereotypes in the workplace given my financial background and these worries of mine were completely settled at the event and im reassured fully that EY isnt the same in this respect.
It made me realise that it doesnt matter what degree you do, it is okay to change your mind and not all doors are closed. Before going to the event, i was sure i was going to go into assurance but coming here im now thinking maybe tax would suit my personality better.
Everything Else
Every expense was paid for by EY which was amazing as otherwise i wouldnt have been able to afford to come to the event. It really reassures me that if i impressed EY in the future they wouldnt let my financial position stop me from excelling there.
The panel event was my favourite part of the two days. I had so many questions to ask and there were so many experienced individuals i could ask them too the choices were amazing. This part of the event could definitely do with being a lot longer though to get most out of it.
Im struggling for things to say because in my opinion the event couldnt have been improved much further. The social event on the thursday evening was a great way to interact with other students and because of it i made friends with people i know i’ll stay in touch with afterwards.
From the table hosts we were told a bit about the extra curriculars staff at EY get up too, but this wasnt touched on loads. We were told that the social side of EY is a lot bigger than youd initially expect and you can end up on a sports team with a partner and not realise.
I couldnt recommend this event more. There wasnt one part of it that i didnt learn from, and at no point did i feel it was a waste of time. It gave me an amazing insight into all the service lines and gave me a lot of thinking to do about my future.
