About You
I really enjoyed the insight day as i completed an internship at EY last year for 4 weeks working in the UKI Tax department so attending the insight day opened me up to the other departments as well. I particularly enjoyed the panellist event as they were really informative and answered the questions fairly openly and honestly.
I feel like everyone who I encountered both from EY and the other candidates were really welcoming and warming. I think having done an internship already did help as I was familiar with the environment. Seeing familiar faces from last year and then acknowledging me made me feel Even more welcomed and brought out the warming people atmosphere that EY promotes.
There was a lot of guidance provided and all of my questions were answered. What I feel could be improved was for the speed networking people to have badges as it was difficult to remember a lot of names; or perhaps hand out a list of contact details for those willing to provide them.
I have always been a nervous presenter but with practice I feel I am getting better. The presentations we delivered at the insight day really helped and also gave me new skills to take on board that I would not have come across at university. The analytical skills that came from the case study were also really helpful.
The Company
It was quite well structured however I feel the first day could have been better structured. It was quite draining listening to speaker after speaker. A recommendation would be to have one case study on each rather than 2 in one day to break up the talks a bit which will allow us to have a break from being spoken at for long periods of time.
I feel like the atmosphere was really positive and everyone was open to talk to. The pair exercise on the first day was a good way to get us to mingle with other candidates and build relationships with them. The social was also a really good idea to brighten up the atmosphere even further and make us feel inclusive in the EY culture.
There wasn’t a lot on personal training and development. It was very group based work, and whilst I would love to have individual help I appreciate it is not possible with such large quantities of candidates present. The group work and presentations assisted in my teamwork skills however, which was quite useful for myself.
The insight helped with this a lot as the speed networking and panellist event made it very clear what a full time role in each department and sub department with consist of. I already had an idea of the tax department having done the internship last year so having that prior knowledge was really useful.
The intro to EY presentation at the start of the first day really thoroughly introduced us to the company culture and allowed us to feel included in that culture during our time here. Being in the EY building also allowed us to open up to the culture. I think perhaps seeing how people work day to day in different departments first hand would have also been useful.
I already knew I wanted to go into tax having previously done the EY internship in that sector division. However doing the insight day opened me up to the technology section of EY as well and I am now considering which one I would prefer between the two of them.
Everything Else
I was provided accommodation at the Hilton hotel for one night, and was reimbursed for my train travel. The accommodation was paid for in the hotel and was very suitable as the events were happening in the same hotel. I was also provided breakfast lunch and dinner on the first day and breakfast and lunch on the second day.
Yes there were many opportunities like this. We had a lot of talks by employees, a panellist event, speed networking and also general networking during lunch and break timings. The speed networking was not very well managed but I found everything else very useful and insightful into a future career at EY.
The bowling was particularly fun as it showed that EY is about a work life balance and whilst we know that’s what it promotes, it was positive to see it in action as well. I feel the speed networking could be better managed but everything Else was well structured and well carried out.
No I don’t feel like this area was covered, and if it was it was covered very briefly. I think covering this would be really useful as it would further enhance into potential candidates about the flexible working and work life balance that EY encourages as a firm. I feel different employees on different levels explaining this to us would be useful.
Yes I would recommend it to a friend as on the whole it was an extremely rewarding experience to be involved in. I found it to be very informative and summarising at the same time, both which I view as positive aspects of my experience. I have made some great contacts through this programme.
