About You
The EY discover women in business insight was really enjoyable, EY put us up in a nice hotel if we lived far enough away from London. This was obviously really nice to stay in but also meant the insight was more sociable than others I have done. There was even a social on the middle night for us to all properly meet each other.
EY were really accommodating during this insight and made us feel like valued employees despite only being there for 2 days. All expenses were paid and accommodation provided, and they stuffed us with really nice food the entire time. The staff and grads answered any questions we had so I felt valued.
Support was there when needed and as mentioned before if we had any questions they were answered fully, but because there were 100 of us on the insight programme I wouldn't say there was much guidance, although it would have been really difficult for them to provide this to such a large group.
I'm not sure how well the skills learnt will help me in my degree studies because they're not too relevant but in terms of progressing onwards with my career the skills are highly valuable. Hopefully this will help me gain other intern experiences and hopefully eventually secure me a career within professional services.
The Company
For two days only EY managed to fit in so many activities meaning it had to be really well structured. Apart from not providing transport to the optional social night, EY organised everything for us and so everyone was on time for everything and we didn't miss out on any information.
Everyone at this insight was really friendly and the two days were jam packed so there were no particularly boring moments, however there was a lot of sitting and listening to talks which obviously isn't the most exhilarating activity. However there was a lot of information so I'm not sure how they could have delivered this without long talks.
I feel well invested in considering this was such a short programme and I didn't feel as if I hadn't been well catered to, but because this is such a short programme I can't say that the personal training and development was extensive, the purpose of the two days was more to introduce us to the business.
It didn't really do this because it was only two days but that's not the purpose of it so I didn't mind.
Before this insight I felt that there was no differences in the Big 4. However now after spending time at EY and other big 4 firms I do feel that EY has a lovely people orientated culture that made me feel as if working here is very desirable and something I would want.
We were given an extensive outline of the different service lines within EY and thanks to a panel event we could ask specific questions, however I still don't feel I know the typical daily activities of most of the roles, but no one has really been able to explain them to me anywhere, I feel these jobs are just experience .
Everything Else
Ey paid for transport and put us up in the Hilton Tower Bridge
The insight was really great in this sense. We were working with grad employees the entire day both days which was really helpful as they are similar age to us and doing the schemes I might be interested in when I graduate. We also had a panel with very senior members of the company so that was interesting to hear from them.
They provided a social on the Thursday night for all the participants. They hired put a small bowling alley and provided pizza and chips and even free drinks tokens. I wasn't expecting this and it was a really nice evening, and a great way to meet like minded people from other parts of the country
We learnt about the women's network which is really great and made me more interested in the company because this is a priority to me, but apart from this we didn't really learn about anything else that EY offers which I did hear a lot about at other big 4 events.
Deifinitely, I've really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone thinking about a career in professional services, even if just vaguely because this isn't a massive commitment
