About You
This insight gave me a chance to understand the different service lines within EY and the roles they undertake which was very helpful. I also enjoyed the interactive side of the programme where we worked in table groups and presented to others about a case study. The speed networking event was also very informative.
The company gives me the impression that they really value their employees and also their potential future employees. They wish to identify and promote talent within students and thus I felt very appreciated during my time at the programme. They catered for us very well and encouraged involvement from every candidate.
Through presentations, games and networking activities, I felt that a lot of guidance was provided. I think that we were guided very well by our table hosts in areas that we were not so familiar with. Questions were also answered very well so that we received the guidance we needed.
I think that the programme has helped me improve my communication skills as I had the chance to meet a lot of new people from different backgrounds. Also, I now have a clearer insight of the finance industry especially with regards to accounting firms, this will help my career choice in the future.
The Company
The day was organized very well and they followed the structure. The first day was more informative about the company and therefore helped us understand the basics of the company and industry. The second day on the other hand allowed use to use the knowledge we learnt the day before.
The atmosphere was very good, the people that I met during the programme were all friendly and positive which made me enjoy the programme more. The employees within EY seemed very supportive and understanding, which also improved the atmosphere. During the social, the atmosphere was very relaxing which was good after the presentations.
As it was only a two day course, it was difficult for the company to invest in us in terms of personal training and development. However, from what I gathered in the insight programme, EY seems to invest a lot in the future in their graduate schemes and internship schemes.
Again, as it was a two day programme, it was difficult to fully comprehend what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm. I gained a deeper understanding and I know the roles and tasks they may undertake however this is different to actually working in the firm as an intern.
The presentations on the first day made it very clear to us that EY values its culture greatly and that it is core to the firm. This is also something that attracts me to firm as they appreciate the importance of diversity, respect and integrity. Therefore the insight did a great job of this.
It was definitely helpful as I gained a lot of information about the industry and how accounting firms operate daily. However, as I am uncertain about the path I wish to take, I am still open to other options. Therefore I cannot say that this insight has helped me decide my future career path.
Everything Else
I travelled from York to London by train, the company covered my travel expenses which was great. The return journey was also covered. For people who do not have a place to stay in London, they were offered a room to stay at Hilton. However I stayed at my uni accommodation in London.
We had a networking session which allowed us to meet many different employees all of different backgrounds. This was very useful as they took different career paths which gave us an insight into the various ways in which we can progress through the company. We also had socials on the first day.
The first day we had the chance to play bowling at Bloomsbury. This was a great opportunity to meet other students from different unis which made the programme relaxing as well as making it informative. We also had the chance to network during breaks/ lunch breaks which was very useful.
Less information was provided about this. Nevertheless some were mentioned.
I would recommend this to a friend, the programme was not too intense but it was informative at the same time. The atmosphere was very good and the people I met during the programme were all friendly and supportive. I believe that students will Benefit a lot from this insight.
