About You
I really enjoyed the insight days as it gave a really good impression of day to day work at the company. This also matched with what I had previously heard about the company. However everything was fitted into 2 days which was tiring and I would have much preferred a 3 day programme so that all questions could be answered (especially during the panel)
I felt valued during my time here as all my accommodation was payed for and the company took a lot of effort to make sure that we got everything we need - breakfast, lunch and dinner were all provided and this was very varied. Vegetarian options were available to us and the thought of a social was very good as this really helped us make new connections in a comfortable environment.
The guidance was fantastic as we were told all about the assessment centre and were given more support than other participants who had not taken part in the insight programme, this was very helpful as it proved to us that they were already readying us for the next stage of recruitment.
The tips were focused ultimately on life at EY as opposed to generally in the world of assurance. This had benefits as we could prepare for later stages of the recruitment process with lots of knowledge on what we would potentially be doing as part of a job. This would not be so helpful for jobs that would not be at EY as other companies work differently ( for example: different sectors and different service lines)
The Company
The insight programme was structured relatively well. A clear time period was allocated to each topic covered during the 2 days however this was not met some of the time and there would be changes made to these times at various points during the days. Allowing more time between each task would be a suggestion.
Most of the other participants were willing to communicate and build a network. The staff were expceptional in terms of personality and representing the firm. They were always very helpful and willing to answer any question that any of us had. There were various service lines with various superiorities who attended so they were very knowledgable about their lines of work.
the company made sure they invested in me by letting me meet the people working there and networking with them. this socialising was very good for personal training as it gave us an idea of not only what happens at the business from day to day but also how to work here from day to day.
this area was not spoken of very commonly. questions on this area were asked but most of the time the response that 'the job is very flexible so nothing is repetitive' was given. I would have liked for the insight programme to give us a firmer understanding of what the role will entail. having said this, the talks with all the women and their day to day work lives allowed us significant information but not necessary in as much detail as i would have liked.
the insight was very good at helping me understand the company culture as we were given the opportunity to mingle with people working in all sectors. this allowed me to have a greater understanding of what the company values are like and how well the firm stuck by these. regardless to say, the workers confirmed how morally strong EY is and how far it will go to keep these values maintained.
This insight programme was very helpful as it opened my eyes to the biases other companies would have when women work at their firm. it also reassured me that EY is the company i would like a future in as it focused so much on equality and making sure women are treated well.
Everything Else
I was very grateful for the entire experience but also because i was reimbursed for the journey. It was a bit confusing to arrange travel as I was travelling from london and would only require tube although the company EY used to provide transport sent a railcard for the train.
This was one of the most well thought out insight days as it really allowed us to communicate with the people who knew most about the career we wanted to get into. the networking involved different workers (all from different sectors) at each station as we moved around in groups to each of these stations and got to question/talk/interact with all of these people and find out more about what we wanted to know.
These were great as EY had thought about which people to put on each of the stations and varied which of the sectors people came from in order for everyone to get their questions answered. A social event also took place - in a bowling alley which allowed us to interact with eachother.
This was touched upon briefly by some of the speakers although not much detail went into this area. We were informed about the get togethers and socials that the workers at EY get involved with (which was much like the social event we were about to attend at the bowling alley) so it made us feel very similar.
Yes, i would definitely recommend this insight programme to a friend as it really allows them to understand what being an employee at EY would be like and why it is different from all the other firms out there. this was especially insightful to us as we were women who wanted to know about how we would be treated during maternity leave/after children etc and this was really explored.
