    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement here. This is because it was very insightful, especially to learn about the four different service lines and what each entails. The layout of both days was very enjoyable as the team structure enabled me to meet lots of new people both in formal and informal environments.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I found the speakers to be very appreciative of the fact that different people have different backgrounds. I thought Joanne Conway’s speech on Diversity and Inclusion particularly harnessed this. My table host also emphasised the achievement we had all made to get this far, making us each feel valued and proud.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was a generous amount of guidance and support available throughout both days. There were plenty of opportunities to ask questions to staff, and even when the question was not related to one’s career area, they offered seeking guidance and emailing a response. Even during breaks, the EY professionals showed an interest with our progression.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I felt the problem-solving skills required for the case study will help across all modules of my degree. In addition, the teamwork skills needed for all tasks was of particular relevance to my course, where many of our assignments are group projects. I feel the skills I have gained from networking with stand me in good stead for the remaining years of my degree.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The event had one of the highest levels of organisation that I have had the fortune of experiencing. The speakers knew what to say and who was to follow. The Hilton also did an excellent job of organising food, drinks and tables. It was clear, from the emails before I started, that the itinerary was well organised, and the days reflected this.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • There was a very welcoming and positive atmosphere on both days. From the first morning, EY’s perspective on openness to improving weaknesses and strengthening strengths gave the event a positive energy. There was also a team culture where value was placed on building each other up to achieve our best and work on weaknesses through supporting each other.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • EY invested a lot of time in highlighting that personal development is continuous. I feel that EY would be a positive learning environment to work in for this reason. In terms of personal training, I believe the personality tests allowed you to identify your strength and weaknesses, which allowed you to learn where you can grow.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The event answered several questions that I had about working at EY. Having a table host was a great idea as it allowed you to ask them questions about their daily working life. The EY professionals were very honest about the reality of their working lives. For example, the number of hours they work.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The EY speakers at the event highlighted the values of the firm. What is more, the company’s value on teamwork was clear through the intrinsic nature of all of the tasks. The recruitment process tips also illustrated how selection is aligned with their values to ensure their staff hold such values.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content from both days helped to delineate what each of the four service lines entailed. For this reason, both of the days had gave a lot of clarity in helping me to decide what I would like to further look into. Above all, I learned that being open-minded is a valuable approach to take when deciding a career path at EY.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • EY we’re very generous in that they paid for transport and a hotel. The Hilton were catered very well with providing enough food and drink for everybody. The King Pin Suite were very good at catering for dietary requirements and even offered extra food to make sure I had enough to eat.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities for networking. For example, during our breaks and lunches. Also, during dinner, we had an informal chance to network. The speed networking opportunity allowed us to meet members of staff from all different backgrounds and across different service lines. There were opportunities to ask questions too to network.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very good and allowed informal and formal networking. In this way, I would recommend the event.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. We were told about the different societies, such as netball.
