    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the 2 day program. The student recruitment advisors were all very approachable and helpful in answering my questions. The talks by leading women in the individual divisions gave great insights into the workings of each divisions and the kind of skills required to succeed in them. I also liked the mock assessment centre and case study. Sunshine inns in particular helped me better understand the kind of work each division is involved in, and they way they interact and complement one another.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I always felt like I was being heard and listened to, and my opinions were taken seriously by everyone around me. All the EY employees I met were happy to answer my questions and engaged in interesting conversations with me. I also loved working in my group and felt that we bonded well with one another.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support in terms of the application process and types of opportunities available at EY. However, I wish that we had covered more on advisory and TAS, as i am very interested in these divisions. The speed networking session gave a taste of these smaller divisions, however, I feel like i still cannot make an informed choice in which division to pursue.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I got the opportunity to analyse and evaluate information, apply my existing knowledge, and come up with recommendations. I believe that these skills will be invaluable for both my academic work and my future career. I also learnt a lot about presentation and public speaking skills, as well as the importance of networking.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. I do believe, however, that it might have benefited us to learn more about advisory and TAS. Also, I would have liked more opportunities to work and interact with participants outside my group. And for the social, it would be nice to have table hosts come along, so we can get to know them better.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. I could tell that all my fellow peers were very intelligent and ambitious, and I greatly enjoyed talking to and learning from them. I liked how the student recruitment advisors passed the mic around and asked us about our opinions or how we felt, it created a great reflective and learning atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I learnt a lot about how to succeed at the assessment centres and case studies. Specific advise on working in teams and presenting was useful as well. I would have liked more advise on initial and partner interviews, as well as a presentation by a student on a placements and or an employee in a graduate role.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The firm brought in women leaders to tell us about their experiences, which gave us a real personal insight into the opportunities at EY. This gave a good sense of the career progression at the company, and I now feel more informed as to the directions that I could potentially head in.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight gave me a great understanding of the company's people culture. The great working environment was emphasised many times throughout the 2 days by numerous employees. It was really great to see this culture first hand, through the kindness of the employees I met and talked to. You don't believe it till you see it! :)

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content gave me a good understanding of tax and assurance services. However, it did not cover advisory and TAS services in depth, which was unfortunate as those are the services that I am most interested in. I would have liked talks on the placement year or graduate roles as well.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was not paid or reimbursed expenses. However, others who had travelled in from other regions in the UK were fully reimbursed and were offered accommodation at the Hilton for 2 nights. The bowling social was free and the breakfast and lunch provided on both days were free as well.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. The table hosts were readily available to answer any questions. The student recruitment advisors for very helpful as well and offered great advise on the application process. The speed networking session gave me a better understanding of the other service lines in the firm.
