About You
I enjoyed the event immensely. The structure of the event was organised and very informative, particularly about the Tax and Assurance sector. There were many opportunities to network with staff through speed networking events and social events to learn more about each division. There were also great games related to EY’s service lines which gave me a better understanding about EY’s functions.
The staff at EY were very approachable and friendly, and were always happy to answer any questions you had. The event organisers also gave people the opportunity to participate through either asking speakers questions directly after the presentations, through emails, or through entering questions on slido.net.
The support during the insight was fantastic. Travel expenses were reimbursed, and accommodation and meals were provided. The table seating was also random which was good because it enabled us to meet other students, as well as stretch myself out of my comfort zone and develop the ability to work in new teams.
There were several games and activities during the insight that built upon several useful and applicable skills. There was a game where we had to build a barn out of Lego, enabling us to build upon creativity. Furthermore, there was a case study which enabled us to learn what typical problems EY clients face. There was the opportunity for us to also give a group presentation, enabling us to build soft skills.
The Company
The structure of the insight was organised and very accommodating. For instance, there were frequent breaks to enable us to have refreshed minds to fully engage in further sessions. Having a social at the end of the first day was also a good way for staff and students alike to bond. Furthermore, there was a good balance of networking, enjoyable tasks, and having speaker and panel events.
Enthusiasm as energy were flowing from all the participants and event organisers throughout the event. This made the event very enjoyable, and time passed very quickly during the two days at EY. The table hosts were always excited to share their experiences at EY, making the culture at EY seem very supportive and caring.
EY invested time in giving us weekly counselling sessions and feedback to help assess our areas of development and ensure that we have deepened our understanding of the division. Interns had to do a presentation which gave a us a good opportunity to develop confidence.
I spoke to several staff at EY who were either on the Graduate Programme or full time staff. This gave me an insight as to how the the first three years would be. This involved taking the chartered accounted test and gaining certification as well as technical skills, during your time at EY.
The staff at EY who I spoke with highlighted the strong, support EY had for staff, and emphasised how EY’s training was one of the best fresh graduates receive. Furthermore, the speakers highlighted the importance of clients’ wellbeing, enabling me to conclude that EY had a client-centric culture.
One of the main factors in deciding where I would like to work in the future is the working atmosphere in my future firm. Being at this programme, I would definitely look for a supportive and collaborative work culture like EY’s culture, where happiness and emotional support are key.
Everything Else
I did not require reimbursement for travel, and I did not need accommodation because I only lived 35 minutes away from where the event took place.
There were not.
There were opportunities to post your travel commute on social media, and use he hashtag #SIPEY2019 to stand a chance to win a speaker. Interns also got the chance to participate and organise their own fundraising event in respective offices.
I learnt that there was an external society regarding a woman’s society at EY, as well as a mental health society, and many sports societies.
