About You
I absolutely loved this insight. Everyone was so friendly and it was so nice to be able to meet other people in the same situation as me. All of the staff have been very friendly and it was run so well. It was definitely an invaluable experience and one that I would definitely recommend.
I think that we were treated as potential employees by the staff which meant that they were willing to offer information and help when we needed it. Obviously we are too inexperienced to be able to contribute properly to the firm in terms of value, but everything that we did was valuable in terms of learning how the company operates and what it might be like to work here in the future.
On the first day, the compliance, excel and general training was so useful and I found the excel training especially of use when I was given some work during my time here. HR were also very helpful in offering advice about what to do and where we should be.
I think that learning to be independent in the work place environment was one of the most valuable things that I learnt as it is applicable to day to day life. Also, the communication skills I have learnt have been useful as it has enabled me to realise when and when is not a good time to ask questions.
The Company
I think that there was a good balance between scheduled talks/meetings and then having free time to do desk work and organise my own meetings which was so helpful. Not only this, but I think that there was a good amount of time to get to know the other interns which will definitely be useful in the future.
I think that the work life atmosphere at Nomura is amazing. I love seeing how fast paced it can be sometimes vs the days when there is not as much happening. I love the early mornings and think it is so nice how so much is achieved before midday. Not only this, but everyone smiles which is definitely a rarity and something that lifts the atmosphere on a daily basis.
Ii think that the staff treat you as they would have liked to be treated in the same position which is so nice. Everyone is kind and willing to help you learn which has definitely helped a lot throughout the programme. I have also learnt a lot more than I ever could have by reading a textbook.
It definitely gave me an insight about what it would feel like to be an employee of Nomura due to the fact that we were on a desk with a team who actually do it every day for a living. The programme also gave us the freedom to talk to as many people as possible to get a sense of their feelings about the company and their journey to be where they are today which is again invaluable.
I think that it is so nice to walk around the floor and hear so many different languages and people of such varying origins and backgrounds. Also, being a Japanese bank, spending 2 weeks here has enabled me to witness the collaboration that Nomura has on a global basis both with its clients and colleagues which has been an amazing experience.
Especially in terms of being able to have free reign to talk to whoever you can has been so helpful. It has enabled me to see both what I think I would be suited to and what I don't think would fit my personality which is something that I would not have been able to do without being here.
Everything Else
We were paid. I am still waiting on my expenses but really hope that I am paid as it cost me a lot to commute from Surrey every day.
We all had access to email which was invaluable as we could arrange meetings to fit our schedule
The drinks was a really nice way to meet the other interns and see what the social occasions are like in the firm.
The intranet is a really good way of seeing what is on offer in terms of staff events and means that you can see what you can participate in.
Without a shadow of a doubt. I have learnt so much in my time here and would love love love to be here even longer to learn even more.
