About You
It was a good experience but I felt the hours were slightly longer than what I am used to. Of course this was necessary in order to gain sufficient knowledge in one week. Therefore I'm not marking down too far because of these extra hours that we worked at the company
I felt that everyone was very welcoming and helped me find my way around the building. This made me feel very comfortable during the experience and gave me insight into what the people at the company would be like if I ever ended up working there in a permanent role.
Everything was extremely well planned out and timed which meant that we were never not doing anything. The day was well structured and guides were given so we always knew what we were up to that day. All questions were answered really well as if the answers were already prepared
As I study economics the skills that I use in my degree including mathematical and statistical skills as well as analytical skills were widely used throughout the experience. Especially so in the trading environment. Also attention to detail is required in my degree in certain modules and found this to be the case during work shadowing too.
The Company
The insight week was extremely well structured. Everything had been planned out very well and we were always busy with activities or presentations or skills workshops. There was a variety of events which meant that we were never bored of doing the same thing and no two days were the same
Everyone was extremely welcoming and understanding that this was a new and daunting environment for most of the students who were on the spring insight week. This made us all very comfortable in the environment. As well as this'll, the activities were very fun which meant we were always enjoying ourselves
The company spent a lot of time with us giving us the time and support that we needed. They answered all questions that we had which made the experience really worth while. It was especially nice to see senior members of staff take the time to come and talk to us
Work shadowing really helped me understand what it would be like to work at the company in a full time position. Also at the end of all presentations we could ask questions which helped us all understand what the regular routine of people in different sectors would be like
Every presentation included a section where the employee would highlight the benefits thay they thought that they had felt being part of the company. Also when asking questions it was interesting to see that most people mentioned that it was he employees at the company who made the experience really fun
I think it was extremely useful. I was not sure which sector I wanted to go into or if I even wanted to work in banking. Spending time with employees and listening to their advice helped me narrow down a sector that I would like to work in and clear up any queries that I had
Everything Else
I was given an apartment to stay in during the week as I lived over an hour away. This made my commute to work much easier every day and I am very grateful. We were also given a travel card to go to work and given meals every day so we didn't have any major costs
There were lots of presentations where senior members of staff talked to us. There were many breakfasts and lunches where we got to speak to both normal and senior members in the company. There was also a panel whereby we could talk to current interns at the company which was extremely useful
The social events were really well planned out and they enabled us to meet lots of the staff as well as other students in different sectors of the bank. We were also able to connect with analysts in their first year and incoming interns which was really helpful for us at this stage.
Yes. On the last day we found out about extra activities outside work thay were run by the company that we could get involved with. This included various sporting activities which were said to help you engage with people in various sectors of the workplace who you may not meet otherwise
The work placement was well planned out and structured. We had invaluable experience shadowing members on the trading floor and in research and this helped me make a decision as to whether I wkjkd like to work at the company full time. As well as This, we were reimbursed for our stay.
