About You
I really enjoy the insight so much. The people here are so friendly and they are willing to help you when you have any questions. Besides, I learnt a lot about Barclays' values and culture in the insight. The steep learning experience and exposure that I gained helped me improve my soft skills such as interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
I felt valued especially when my ideas and opinions were being heard during the group discussion. Moreover, during the work shadowing, they were so willing to teach me and gave me a clear insight on what do they do on a daily basis. I also felt comfortable to mingle around, sharing our stories and university experience.
A lot of support was given during the insight. For instance, when I email-ed them to ask about the areas that I did not understand, they replied me so quickly, showing that they were ready to guide and help me. During the networking evening, I also managed to talk to few graduates who shared their experience in Barclays, helping me to understand Barclays more.
Networking skills are one of most important skills that I developed during the insight. I feel that it definitely helps me in my degree studies where I believe expanding connections and building relationships are important towards the future career path. In addition, I also felt that one has to be curious, innovative and be willing to learn no matter what. It will bring us further in the future.
The Company
The insight was pretty well-structured. We had sufficient time to ask questions during the insight session and networking evening. Besides, the insight session was really helpful to me when I had a better idea about the division that I am interested in. However, the lunch hour was quite short for certain days where we needed to rush.
The general atmosphere was really nice and amazing. The spring interns, and graduates were really friendly and helpful. The fun and games that we had in the first few days such as ice-breaker enabled us to understand each other better. Overall, we fostered a good relationship with each other throughout the insight.
There were few things such as work shadowing session, senior speakers insight session and networking event organised throughout the insight. This showed that Barclays really cares about investing in young talents in terms of personal training and development.
I believe that the work-shadowing session really helped me understand what do they do in the daily basis. From explaining the structure of the division to bringing us to the office, it really gave me a better understanding and clearer picture on their work, besides helping me to ensure the suitability of the role applied.
The first day I stepped in Barclays, I can see all the five values in every corner, showing how important the values are to Barclays. Also, during the insight session, the senior speakers also mentioned how the culture are so important in Barclays which would impact Barclays in a certain way.
I did not know what division should I choose as they all seemed so similar. After a few insight and networking session, I really understood better in choosing my career path. There were graduates who are there ready to share their experiences and thoughts with you about their particular role.
Everything Else
I was paid adequately for my insight week. I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Barclays.
Yes, the networking events were really helpful and insightful, helping me to expand social circles, and improving my soft skills. Talking and meeting people from different backgrounds helped me to understand and listen to their opinions, ideas and thoughts about particular area. I really enjoyed when there was one time when I met someone who had similar interest as me.
The networking opportunities also enhanced my understanding on how every particular job varied.
Yes. I found out that the staffs in Barclays were very active in social activies. They had a lot of outings together on the weekends and drinking on the Friday night. This showed that how close-knitted are they together, not only in the work place, but also outside work place.
Yes, This insight was an eye-opening experience, helping me to understand how financial institutions work. Besides the friendship that we made along the way amongst the spring interns, we also learnt a lot and gained exposure on the things that we did not usually learn in the university. Once again, it also enhanced our soft skills which I believe the importance of it in workplace.
