The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time, meeting a range of people and doing and learning things I thought I never would.
Colleagues are very good at providing feedback on your work. I feel like the work I am doing is making a difference.
I had regular catch ups with my buddy, who always made me feel I could tell them any concerns I had and would try and help me.
I always have plenty of ranging work that builds on several skill sets.
As time went on I was provided with more and more responsibility, feeling like I was contributing an important part to the task at hand.
The skills have I have gained and developed will stay with me for life. I have a broader knowledge of my degree area as well as providing me with personal and work skills that will make me far more confident when I leave university.
The Company
There was a great working atmosphere where everyone was up for a laugh with a focus still on meeting deadlines and getting work done. There were plenty of socials out of work to get know people as well.
I could tell Grant Thornton were experienced in dealing with work placements with suitable work for me from day one with more experienced members of the team there to help you through.
We were made to set our own objectives for our placement which were reviewed bi-annually to assess our developments. Grant Thornton also has it own specific training centre at Bradenham, where a range of courses were available as well as in house courses such as business writing and excel courses, which were really helpful.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
There is clear path for placement students with the desire that all being well a job is a strong possibility at the end of university. The job would be a graduate scheme with the aim of taking professional exams alongside work.
The Culture
Out of the 6 other placement students to start with me, half went to my uni, allowing for me to continue friendships when my placement is over. We all bonded well as a group and often meet up out of work.
London isn't exactly cheap but it was reasonable especially with the subsidised canteen. I commuted from home which save me a bit of money.
I had never experienced London before socially but it has everything you could want right on your doorstep!
There were plenty of social activities organised from the simple pub on a Friday evening to rollerdiscos, rounders and bowling!
