About You
I really enjoyed the insight as it gave me a new perspective regarding financial services. The UBS Talent Lab 2018 was jam-packed with talks and workshops from different people and different areas of the multinational Swiss Bank. I particularly enjoyed the workshops as they created a fun aspect to the different services UBS has.
I felt quite valued. The grads and employees who worked there were very interactive especially during networking events. People were approachable but not overly friendly. I felt valued as UBS paid for my flights and accommodation to attend the Talent Lab 2018. The Junior Talent Recruitment also answered any queries or issues we had during the course of the 3 days.
The networking events provided us with great guidance. We got to meet some amazing people who were working with UBS the past years. They offered us future guidance and support which many of us thought was a great aspect to the Spring Insight. Some grads left us their contact details if we had any questions to ask too.
I learnt so many new skills in the course of the 3 days. I gained a lot of knowledge about the different areas in UBS, which has definitely helped guide me to decide where I want to bring my future career. The skills gave me a broader understanding of how my degree can be applied to real life situations within UBS.
The Company
There was a clear timetable of events from the outset. It was nicely structured with frequent breaks. The insight did seem quiet seamless throughout. There was no disruption to the timetable. The insight had a lot of variety throughout and there was plenty of time left for group project work.
The atmosphere was very professional. The other students were very pleasant and ambitious likewise. I met some amazing students at the programme who I will stay in contact with in the future. In general, people I met were very interactive which helped create a wonderful atmosphere at the UBS Talent Lab.
Unfortunately they did not offer a desk shadowing opportunity so we did not see any employees at work. The employees came to our area to speak to us so we did not get to see the type of environment they work in which would have gave us a great insight into what it would be like to have a full time role within UBS.
Interacting with the multitudes of employees gave me a great understanding of the values of UBS. These values transform the evident culture within UBS. UBS value integrity and Client Focus. Which was very clear from the UBS Talent Lab. They did a workshop on their values so this really helped in our understanding of the company's culture.
It gave me a great insight what I should expect when going to other companies. The standards UBS left were quite high. I know the different roles within the Technology Sector in UBS and which I'm suited too. Talking to the grads in these areas helped me distinguish which career path was for me.
Everything Else
They paid for my flights to London, from Cork, Ireland which their team booked themselves. They also covered my travel expenses excluding Taxi's. I had no use of the tube during my stay so there was only the expense of the Stansted Express. I should expect my reimbursement in the next 6 weeks.
Yes there were plenty of opportunities throughout the 3 days at UBS. There were networking events with employees and grads. We also had the chance to ask questions to the more senior employees who delivered talks on their different areas. Then the grads from the different areas carried out the workshops which gave us a chance to meet them.
Great
There didn't seem to be a great work life balance with the company. We did not hear much about the activities that employees can get involved in outside work. This was quite a negative aspect of the UBS Talent Lab 2018. I wish there was more emphasize on the work life balance of the employees.
