The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, I didn't feel at all nervous or uneasy once I had started.
I was given more responsibilities than I thought I would so my assistance and work was valued.
People were more than happy to answer my questions, no matter how stupid I thought they were. They would much rather you ask, then carry on unsure and get something wrong.
I had a few days where there wasn't enough work for me at the clients so I was sent back to the office, but whenever I was at a clients there was plenty to do.
Far more responsibility than I imagined, I thought that I'd be doing jobs like photocopying etc, but I was doing actual steps in the audit process and even got to take minutes in a partner/client meeting.
My degree is History so I probably won't use the skills too much, but if I was doing a more finance/accounting related degree I'm sure I would. Skills I will use in my degree include time management and completing tasks to a high standard.
The Company
There were always people working really hard but people often stopped by my desk for a chat etc. It was the right mix as when you had an important piece of work to do you could concentrate properly without being distracted. Having said that, I was only in the office for a total of 6 days.
I felt it was very well organised. On my first day in my office I was told my clients for my entire internship. Although this changed slightly it was easy to check online. The only negative about organisation would be the fact that some days I was scheduled to be at a clients there wasn't enough work to do.
During my internship, we weren't really given training as you had you're induction for the first week when you learnt about E&Y as a whole and particular service lines. Having said that, I understand that during the grad job you get a lot of training, and you are always assisted on the job if necessary.

Company Parties/Events
The week after I had completed my internship with E&Y they rang me and offered my a graduate job which was great, the other two people who did the internship in audit with me got offered a job too.
The Culture
I got on really well with the other interns so we often had lunch out together etc. During our first week in the office we went out for a meal with some of the first year graduates as well.
I worked in Newcastle which meant I could live at home so didn't find it expensive at all.
Newcastle night life is the best.
I can't remember being offered anything outside of work, I know they have many networks to join once you are a graduate employee though.
