About You
The Insight Week I attended was quite enjoyable, I got along well with peers as well as with employees at the company who were very open to our presence and happily sat down and chatted with us. Specifically I enjoyed the site visits we attended (White Hart Lane, Battersea Power Station) & the workshops.
I felt very valued during my time at the company in the Insight Week. Felt very valued, as all types of employees from those currently doing placement years to executives were happy to talk to us and willing to discuss things further through email. In addition to this we were treated well during our time in and outside of the main office.
I received a good amount of guidance and support throughout the duration of the Insight Week. Especially when talking to employees who are currently spending time at the company for placement years or on the graduate programme & during the workshops where we had 1 on 1 interviews with employees of the company.
I believe that the skills I developed will help me greatly in my future applications to Mace and other companies when it comes to that next year. This is the case because during our time in the workshop I gained a useful insight as to how companies look at your CV & application as well as how to answer certain regular interview questions.
The Company
The Insight Week was very well structured, for example having speakers set at certain times with time for questions and short breaks between. This was also the same for our excursions to sites. There was a plan for every part of the day and this allowed this to flow smoothly from our perspective. No time was wasted.
The general atmosphere during my Insight Week at Mace was very positive, with most of the cohort being motivated and energetic, whilst Mace employees all seemed happy to do what they were doing and eager to aid us. I was glad to go on the Insight Week and hope others who go also share my opinions on the great atmosphere.
I can't say there was much time for the company to invest much into us, but within the time we spent together the company seemed eager for us to do well and be successful in whatever it is we go for. It was very informative and so from this I believe the company did invest what it could into us for our progression in the construction industry.
The Insight Week was very useful in determining as to what a full time role at Mace would entail. Combining the presentations, questions we got to ask and the time we spent shadowing an employee in a division of our choice , there was plenty of information to help us understand what a full time role would be like at the company.
The Insight Week helped to provide us with a good enough understanding of what the culture and values of the company are. In addition to being told the values and culture, we got to experience it first hand by seeing how employees worked on projects and also how kind and helpful they were when talking to us.
The content of each day throughout the duration of the Insight Week was very insightful in terms of what it taught me about the construction industry, Mace & the roles available there. I think it has certainly helped me choose as to whether Construction is the industry for me and in a broader sense what roles I am best suited to.
Everything Else
Travel for the Insight Week was reimbursed. I believe that Mace was accommodating for those with more expensive travel due to those who lived further away (such as myself).
There were plenty of times and opportunities in which we could discuss and get to know employees at Mace. This included the speakers, the employees we shadowed and especially during the lunch time in which we were welcome to sit with employees and get to know them over lunch. There was also a specific lunch in which we mingled with placement year interns.
Networking opportunities were great during the Insight Week. Plenty of time and opportunities to discuss and get to know employees at the firm. All were open to us emailing and adding them on LinkedIn I would have appreciated a planned social event to get to know the employees and the my peers on the Insight Week on a more personal level.
Yes, through the presentations given by the variety of employees across the Insight Week we got to find out what kind of activities they do as well as what they did before they even joined Mace in the current position. Besides this, by talking to employees during lunch or during work shadowing we gained an insight into their out of work activities.
I would definitely recommend that a friend applies to the Insight Week at Mace. Not only does it give you the experience of applying and interviewing, but the Insight Week itself was full of useful information in regards to the industry, Mace & in general how to apply to companies.
