About You
The Insight Week at Mace was a fantastic opportunity to get to know the company, the different roles available and the abundance of opportunities available once you join. I really enjoyed getting to know the other people on the group and everyone was willing to help. Presentations, networking opportunities and site visits were very interesting.
The company makes you feel very valued and any kind of doubt or question is readily answered. Throughout the week you have the chance to meet more people and they all treat you with respect and in the happiest way possible.
A lot of support was given during the Insight Week both from the Emerging Talent team as well as the graduates themselves. The workplace shadowing was particularly insightful and a lot of tips were given for future applications and the construction industry in general.
The information received was clearly eye-opening and distinctive between the different career opportunities available. Clear explanation of different roles made it easy to differentiate between them and hence decide what I'd be most interested in for the future. The interview and assessment centre practice was also helpful for the future.
The Company
The week was perfectly structured and the schedule was issued to us beforehand. At the beginning of the day, we would have a quick overview of the day's schedule, with timings and breaks included. Even though we sometimes ran a bit late (probably due to our increased interest and hence lots of questions) it was pretty well structured and easy to follow.
The atmosphere at the company was quite surprisingly welcoming. Everyone felt respected and you could literally talk to anyone. Very friendly atmosphere with opportunities to talk to practically anyone that might be next to you.
I would say that the last day was all about this. Interview, CV, application and assessment centre tips were all very insightful and helpful for the future. The company spent a lot of time to make sure we received a handful of information regarding the aforementioned, and also urged us to have a mini interview and assessment centre, which I found really helpful.
To a great extend I would say, since the roles were clearly explained by the graduates as well as senior members, but also by visiting sites every day. That made the most impact to me, as it was something I had never experienced before and getting to know what it really is to be on site was a great opportunity to see first hand how the managers operate on site.
The week has really helpful in understanding the company's culture. As already mentioned, everyone feels welcome and respected. There seem to be a lot of opportunities for growth and career progression in any possible way that one wants, as long as they truly pursue it. The company seems to want to push their people above and beyond, and from talking to current graduates and senior members, they all seem motivated.
The presentations were quite detailed, which was pretty good in ensuring key points of different roles were understood. The site visits constituted a significant part of deciding on my future career path, as I got to experience construction at its core. I would be very happy to be back in the near future.
Everything Else
Travel expenses to and from sites were reimbursed, and lunch was provided every day.
Definitely. Apart from the numerous graduates that came to talk to us, you could literally start speaking to anyone at the cafeteria and just learn so much valuable information about the company and the opportunities offered. There were also opportunities during the shadowing afternoon, networking over lunch during the last day, and site visits.
They were really good, either planned nor spontaneous. That's what is great about this company - you can ask for help from anyone - if they have some spare time, they'd be thrilled to help.
Yes, we learnt about Mace Foundation and the amazing work that it does - staff can take one day off a year to volunteer, and there are also other socials that employees organise amongst them.
I would definitely recommend this Insight Week to a friend as it's a great opportunity to get to know what happens in the construction industry, and what a better place to start than a leading international construction and consultancy company. Very informative, enjoyable and eye-opening and with many opportunities to talk to other graduates and hear their experiences.
