About You
I enjoyed it to a great extent. The week was full of activities making sure every day was busy and valuable. All staff were friendly and easy to approach making any questions I had easy to ask. Detailed answers were also given meaning I received a good insight into what the company would be like to work for.
I felt very valued during my week. As well as group activities, a lot of emphasis was put on individual exercises as well meaning one-on-one opportunities were available. This included site tours with just myself and one other peer as well as one-on-one interview practice with feedback at the end.
Support was given whenever it was needed during the insight week. If I was struggling with any exercises or concepts that were explained, help was immediately given to me once asked for by the staff who were present. Also, a lot of guidance was given when discussing the application process for summer internships and placements.
The skills developed will assist a lot in my further degree studies and future jobs as we learnt a lot of communication skills particularly how to act in an interview setting. Moreover, how to approach questions with the STAR method and being able to deliver concise answers in a fluent manner.
The Company
The insight week was well structured with each day being varied rather than monotonous. There was a good balance between presentations, site tours, group exercises and workshops meaning each day was interesting and engaging. Moreover, appropriate breaks were also given allowing all members of the insight to converse with one another and socialise.
The general atmosphere was lively and friendly during the insight week. All participants were friendly and easy to talk to as well as employees who delivered presentations and site tours. Moreover, the head of the week, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] created a relaxed atmosphere where there was no stress or expectations but that everyone took as much as they could from the week.
The company a lot in me. They offered one-on-one CV workshops as well as interview practice with constructive feedback. Furthermore, a lot of focus was on our individual interests within the company and the type of roles we were particularly interested in so we could have specific guidance on our personal areas of interest.
Presentations were given by employees from each department within the company (Project Management Public and Private, Construction Management and Consultancy). This meant that we had a gage for the different roles offered and what each job within the company would entail. Day in the life was explained by each employee as well as their most interesting projects worked on.
The insight week showed that the culture in Mace is friendly and welcoming and that employees are a main focus at the company. Their well being as well as career progression is extremely important and taken as an upmost importance by the company. There is a strong sense of teamwork within the company with explains its success.
The content was very valuable as every aspect was explained from what the job actually entails to the highs and lows of the that type of role. Each presentation was honest which I admired as it gave real insight into what it would be like so that we could make an informed decision when applying for a role in the future.
Everything Else
Travel expenses during the week when going different sites in London were reimbursed for us. This was done very professionally and quickly which made the whole week end on a high and made the Mace look like somewhere that I will definitely want to apply to in the future as they treat there employees well for their hard work.
Many opportunities were presented for networking including networking lunches and time between presentations to chat to the speakers and ask for their emails to stay in contact for any future questions and guidance needed when applying. Moreover, we had the opportunity to shadow employees which allowed us to further network.
These opportunities were very enjoyable as they were in a relaxed atmosphere were staff were easy to chat to and ask questions to. Each employee gave you their full attention making sure that the spaces within the day we had was for networking were used as productively and efficiently as possible.
Yes we learnt about the MACE Foundation which is the charities and events that the company become involved in to help the wider community and those countries that in need of development. They offer employees to have one paid day off in the year to go out and volunteer for any scheme they choose to give something back to the community.
Definitely, as this was a very enjoyable week that I didn't want to end. Having gone into the week with a very basic knowledge of the company, I have come out feeling like I am currently an existing employee there as my knowledge of the company has increased a lot.
