About You
I highly enjoyed the week. I found it to be very insightful and fun. The staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout the week and happy to answer may questions. I learnt a great deal during the insight week and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone interested in Mace.
Through out the week I felt highly valued by everyone at the company. We had a large number of talks from very enthusiastic staff members including graduate students and members of the senior board. Staff on site visits were also very helpful and happy to answer any number of questions.
We received significant guidance during the week in particular on the final afternoon. In this session we covered answers to typical application questions as well as interview techniques and a CV work shop. We also had a mock assessment centre in which we were informed of the best tips for success.
I believe the skills I gained will help me significantly in the future. We did not cover much that I could use in a civil engineering degree however the interview skills as well as the assessment centre have both given me great skills which I will use in the future.
The Company
The week was very clearly structured through out. We had morning presentations from members of different departments followed by a site visit or work shadowing in the afternoon. The days started at around 9:15 and ran to around 4 with the exception of the last day where we finished just before 6.
The atmosphere was fantastic throughout the insight week. I was part of a very friendly and sociable group of students from all over the country. The staff were also very friendly during the week which made the overall atmosphere very light and easy going. There was no sense of competition during the week which also aided to the atmosphere.
On the final afternoon the company gave us substantial advice and training for future applications with them. This included a CV workshop, interview practice as well as typical questions that they tend to ask. In terms of investment in us it simply the time that they put into running the week
We received a large number of talks from grad students that gave great insight into their life at Mace. I was also given the opportunity to shadow a member of the work force for an afternoon. During this time I was able to ask many questions about his role and life at mace.
By spending almost a week at Mace I was able to observe and be a part of the company culture. This is very important as when choosing to work for a company you need to be sure they are the kind of company that you would fit well in during your time there.
The content of the week gave me great new information about where I want to end up as well as giving me some new ideas. The week at Mace has made me want to work there in the future and all the talks have helped me narrow down my future options.
Everything Else
Tube and bus fair to and from site visits were reimbursed
Yes, we met with graduate students when shadowing as well as had a lunch with students on a placement year. Everybody was more than happy to give there details and be available for future questions we may have.
They were very enjoyable and easy going. I would describe them as informal question and answer sessions. The people involved were all very friendly and insightful and happy to answer as many questions as we had. While shadowing was a great opportunity to properly get to know a member of the team
A few staff participated in charity work that was encouraged by Mace as well as going to monthly drinks.
Yes I would highly recommend this week to anyone interested at the prospect of working at a company such as Mace.
