About You
I really enjoyed the Spring Week as I had the opportunity to learn about Asset and Wealth Management at JPM from current employees. The week was structured well as we were able to shadow analysts and associates as well as participating in group activities. There were also a number of presentations about the firm and roles as well as personal branding sessions.
JPM made us all feel very valued, as they spent a huge amount of time on us during the week. There were multiple opportunities to network and we were encouraged to ask whatever questions we had. All the people I met there were extremely friendly and more than happy to talk about the firm and their work.
We did a group project for which we had two sessions with a mentor. This meant we understood the task and could discuss our ideas with someone who was very knowledgeable. Moreover, we spent two mornings shadowing an analyst / associate who gave us a lot of support. During the shadowing I was able to ask any questions and learn about the specific areas of the firm in detail.
The information I received and skills I learnt will definitely help me in the future. Obviously it would be particularly helpful if I were to pursue a career within Financial Services, however many of the skills are transferable, such as team work and commercial awareness. The information was very detailed and I now feel like I know a lot more about Asset and Wealth Management
The Company
The insight was very well structured. We were able to spend time in 3 of JPM's London offices which meant we gained an insight into all the different areas of Asset and Wealth Management. The days were well organised and HR managed to fit a range of talks, presentations, shadowing, and activities into the days. The days were very busy but that was good as we were only there for a week.
Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and more than happy to talk to me about what they do. The other candidates were also all lovely and I really enjoyed working with them during the team exercises. The analysts and associates were more than happy to let us shadow them, and the HR were also lovely. All in all the atmosphere was very good. There were also two social events that were really fun and good for getting to know everyone.
JPM invested a huge amount of time in us to give us training and ensure our professional development. We were given two mornings to shadow an analyst / associate, and we also had many different panel discussions and speed-networking style activities to develop our knowledge. There was a personal branding session to assist our personal training.
It is obviously difficult to learn about the firm in just 1 week, however I now have a much better idea. We were able to meet lots of people from different areas, and so we got a good feel of how it would be to work there. I think they did a good job to ensure we were exposed to the maximum number of people and areas during the week.
I learnt a lot about the company culture from being in the offices. Everyone was lovely and the culture was really great. I did not meet anyone who was not happy to have a chat about what they do or show us how their job fits into the firm's business.
We received a huge amount of information so I now have a much better idea of whether I would enjoy doing the job in the future. I think shadowing employees and seeing what they do on a day to day basis is the best way for someone to decide whether it is something they would like to do themselves. However, as it is a big business, it was not possible for us to learn about all the different areas in a huge amount of detail.
Everything Else
JPM paid for our travel and accommodation, as well as providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner when we were in the office until dinner time. The accommodation was lovely and I feel like they made an effort with all the food. We were given a travel card for the tube on the first day.
there were a huge number of opportunities for networking. Many of the lunches were networking lunches, and there was also one networking tea. Moreover, we were constantly meeting employees either during the shadowing or the presentations and panel discussions.
They were well organised and fun. We had two social events in the evenings where there was food, drink, and the opportunity to mix with the other people not only on my scheme but on all of the three spring week programmes that JPM offers.
There was a small amount of time devoted to this, but not as much as learning about other parts of the firm. I did, however, learn about the work life balance when I shadowed an associate on the first day.
I would definitely recommend this insight as it was extremely well organised and extremely informative. Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and there were ample opportunities to ask questions and find out about many different areas of the firm. It was also good to do a presentation at the end of the week that we completed in teams.
