About You
I enjoyed the insight program immensely. The team at J.P Morgan made me feel very welcome and excited about a career in technology.
I felt very valued during my time at J.P Morgan. The staff work very hard to make you feel welcome and included throughout the course of the three days. A lot of information is given on future internships and graduate programs to get you excited about a possible career at J.P Morgan.
We received lots of guidance and support over the three days. There was time at the end of each session where we were asked if we had any questions, and each question was always given a thoughtful and in depth answer. Any requests (e.g vegan/gluten free meals), worries, or questions were always taken care of with ease.
As someone from a non-programming background, I learned lots of programming skills from only three days. The coding challenges gave me good experience in coding which I would not have previously had. I also learned a lot about how an Agile team works from work shadowing. I learned networking skills from various socials and lunches.
The Company
The program was very well structured and it was clear that the graduate recruitment team spent a lot of time planning the events so that they went seamlessly. Everything was on a strict time schedule and nothing ran over time, but there was always plenty of time for a break and to grab a coffee etc.
I thought the general atmosphere at the insight was great. The culture of the office is very relaxing and chill. Even senior staff at networking events made me feel very welcome. Casual dress code was encouraged in the Glasgow office. The general atmosphere made me feel very relaxed and welcome.
I felt the company invested a lot in me and treated me as though I may be a future employee of J.P Morgan. All expenses were paid for including flights, hotel stay and food and drinks. More importantly, we were made to feel very valued and supported throughout the program
I learned a lot about what it would be like to have a career at J.P Morgan. As someone from a non programming background, I am more likely to pursue a career in technology as a result of my time in J.P Morgan. Graduates and staff give a lot of information about not only the work they do but what its like to live in Glasgow.
I found the company culture to be very relaxed and open in the Glasgow office. The staff stressed that their colleagues are very supportive and are always willing to pull together and solve the problem together. The office encourages a casual dress code. The culture is very relaxed and diverse.
The program definitely helped me to decide on my career path. As I am not in a programming intensive college course I am more open to a career in technology and it is not as daunting as it had previously seemed. I learned that I would like to work in a global company like JP Morgan.
Everything Else
There was plenty of networking opportunities for the students on the insight program. The staff were very open and welcoming and we were encouraged to speak to members of staff. There were two evening social events and one at lunch time where we had the opportunity to speak to senior staff.
The networking events were great, each provided food and an open bar. The first event was in the bowling alley, and the second was in Alhambra House office. The third was a lunch opportunity where we could speak to staff about the work in both the Glasgow office and in other locations around the world
There i plenty of opportunity for staff to get involved in activities outside of work. There is Ignite societies that encourage staff to take interest in many different branches of technology which may be different to what they do as a job (e.g Big Data, AI, UX etc.). There is also general societies where employees can meet up and do various activities e.g yoga society
I would definitely recommend the Spring into Technology program to a friend. We learned a lot about what it is like to work in technology in J.P Morgan, and what life is like in Glasgow. This insight is perfect for anyone who is interested in a possible career in the technology sector.
