About You
The insight was absolutely amazing! We had a range of activities from a personal development workshop to business area talks. I did the Barclays International Spring Week and we got to network with people from the Corporate Bank, Private Bank to Barclaycard International. The employees were very friendly and always willing to help.
I felt very valued. I got the sense that everyone was chosen for a reason and everyone was of great value to Barclays. I met people from different cultures, backgrounds and viewpoints. As spring week interns we all became close friends and I believe this closeness is also adopted within the Barclays employee teams.
We were given a lot of support. HR was very understanding and patient throughout the week. Genuinely, despite being there for only 1 week I felt I was able to open up to HR, who I was sure had my best interests at heart. The employees were very open and candid about their experience and advice provided!
I developed the following key skills during the spring week: Communication. Ability to Work Under Pressure. Decision Making. Time Management. Self-motivation. Conflict Resolution. Leadership. Adaptability. These skills will prove very valuable to me as a student i.e. when completing group work assignments. Also, as I look to a successful career I know the skills mentioned will be essential.
The Company
Very well structured. Day 1: Learning and Development We had a session with a personal development coach which helped us find out more about how to work in a team effectively as well a session of financial markets. Day 2-4: We had a day focused on 3 different business areas. Day 5: Assessment day to convert to a Summer Internship 2019
The general atmosphere during my insight was supportive, energetic and relaxed. Barclays is so diverse and dynamic, I never felt out of place despite not being an employee. Senior speakers were especially a testemant of the fantastic culture Barclays adopt as longevity in career really shows that a firm is a good atmosphere to stay in.
