    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a fantastic insight. The week is full of shadowing with a fun project to complete. They give you a desk and walk you through the product and team. It is the perfect experience for someone that wants to push themselves and learn as much as they can. But even as a non finance student I felt welcomed and supported.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The team were amazing, incredibly welcoming and helped with follow whatever area I was interested in. They allowed me to do a different project which was more suited to the business area I wanted to be in. I felt very valued as an intern, I spoke to many MDs and they were all very welcoming.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Received a lot of support, they reach out to who ever you want to talk to. People can be busy, but they will find time to talk to you after if they weren't available before.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills are very applicable to my future career. A lot of the communication skills I have developed this past week will be invaluable in the future. The analytical skills will also be very useful and helpful with my degree. As an insight into the skills a job requires it was invaluable.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. You are assigned a manager through the shadowing, they sit by and help with anything you need. During the recruitment sessions, the team ensure everything happens slowly so that you can maximise your time on the trading floor. The insight is structured in a way that if you want to make the best of it, you are able too.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Through the whole week everyone was friendly and welcoming. It is a tough environment, however one where people want you to succeed not fail. If you want to do more, they will help you do more, not stop you. From MD's to analysts they are all very friendly, many people say good morning to you even if you do not know them.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invests a lot in your training, they provide a manager to sit with you throughout the week and assist with any issues you have. You are dedicated a computer and are able to work on that throughout the week. The team provide you a lot of internal research as well - you learn a lot.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped a lot, spending so much time on the trading floor allows you to see the dynamic of teams and managers, the workload, the stress levels. I spent ~40 hours this week on the trading floor, this is five times more than other companies. Everyone is willing to share their experiences.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Spending so much time on the trading floor allow you to ask a lot of questions to employees. Everyone is willing to share their thoughts on the company openly without feeling like they will be punished. The managers are firm but also incredibly supportive and really want people to achieve.
