About You
I enjoyed it very much. I got a sufficient amount of information about the different sector in the company and had a fantastic time getting an insight into the field i aspire to get involved in, in the future. I particularly enjoyed the practical side of the programme, where we would go out to view construction projects.
All of the staff there were extremely friendly. Everyone was willing to give information about the company and answer any questions we had. This not only included the CEO of the business, but the staff whom we sat with on the lunch tables also. The culture and atmosphere of the company was very impressive.
We had a member of staff with us at all times therefore we never felt unsupported. As previously mentioned, the staff were very friendly, on multiple occasions they gave me their emails or linked in details in order to contact them in the future with any questions or queries I have.
The skills I received assisted me in my degree and also gave me an experience of what my future career role entails. We shadowed a construction manager, which meant that he took us around the building site and explained what his daily activities involve. I have gained much knowledge about the construction field due to this insight programme.
The Company
The insight week was very well structured throughout. We not only had presentations from the different departments in the company explaining what each of the sectors did, but we also had practice of how to write a good CV and what to do in an assessment centre. This programme was also unique as we had the opportunity to visit the company's projects across the city.
Brilliant atmosphere throughout! Everyone was very friendly and always willing to answer any questions we had. Everything was very well planned, the programme was run in an organised manner. I would definitely recommend this insight week to other university students who wish to gain some experience in this particular sector.
As previously mentioned, the programme offers a lot of personal training and development. For example, they explained how to write the perfect CV and application response, how to succeed in an assessment centre, and also, what employers look for in a good interview response. This highlights the firms investment in the participant.
The insight week helped me understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company. This was done by meeting several employees of the firm and having their daily roles explained. we also had a chance to experience this first hand as we shadowed them during their work.
The insight week helped me understand the company's great and inspiring culture. This was done by meeting several employees of the firm and seeing what great team work and communication is present across all the departments. Everyone was always so friendly and helpful, it truly had a unique culture .
The content of the day was very valuable in helping me decide on my future career . This was done by meeting several employees of the firm and having their daily roles explained and also having the chance to experience first hand as we shadowed them during their work .
Everything Else
I have a travel card so I did not have to be reimbursed. However, the company did offer reimbursements for all travel expenses. This role did not offer a paid experience, we did not get paid. It was all voluntary. They also provided us with a £5 voucher for a lunch meal.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company. This was not only during lunch times where we sat on tables discussing their job roles, but also when we were shadowing the graduates, they were very kind in giving us their linked in details if ever we seek advice.
The networking and social event opportunities were organised as follows: A special lunch where we were introduced to graduates who explained their job roles and their experience at the company. Also when we were shadowing the graduates at work, they were very kind in giving us their linked in details if ever we seek advice.
There is a very interesting volunteering opportunity available at the organisation. The company has a charity named Mace Foundation, where they fundraise money to help not only projects across the country, but also across the globe. They encourage employees to volunteer a few times a year ( though they are paid for it) to get involved, last event was a group marathon.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. This is due to its tailored nature of catering for every participant on this programme whether it be a construction manager, a consultant or even a facility manager. I also gained valuable skills on how to write a good CV or answer questions well in an interview.
