    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Absolutely loved the experience

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Almost everyone were extremely helpful, the teams I work with were brilliant!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • High level of support! I learned to do things well which I didn't know before, they were patient and would evaluate my work constantly so that I felt assured and wouldn't go wrong too far

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Not too busy at all! It was my first time working in the UK, and comparing to my previous work experience in the other 3 continents this is quite chilled! I've felt that British working environment is chilled but we got quality work produced and the clients could always count on our work. Whereas in other countries people might seem to work very hard, work very much and stay very late, it's not necessarily true they produce more work. So I got to go home at 5 everyday if I wanted to, very flexible lunch break, and no one really minds it if you take a mini break and chat with other interns in the kitchen/lounge area for a few minutes.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As an Intern my work was included in the GamX virtual working place. I felt quite good being introduced to all the clients when I first went there representing Ernst & Young rather than an intern. It's inevitable to do some really basic work like casting or getting a file from client's office. But these work are significant! Even partners do that!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree is in Accounting, even though I study in a Canadian university, this experience has immensely helped with my understanding of Auditing and Financial Services. Also interacting with people, getting to build my network with those professional is a crucial part of the whole experience. Everyone was so nice thus made me realize this is the place I want to have my future career in! It also helped me learn more about the "real world" auditing after taking several courses at University.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Amazing! Well as an Audit intern you don't really get to stay in the office too much. But when you are in the office or even in client's site with your team, people are really chatty, friendly and it's so much fun to catch up with them everyday when they stop by your desk to ask how last night was!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organized. All levels of supports available. You get a buddy, an Intern Manager, a counseling manager and intern counselor. They make sure you have a great experience. The graduate recruitment team was amazing as well! They put in so much efforts into organizing a wonderful induction week and final black tie event. I think everyone at Ernst & Young is so capable even though the Graduate Recruitment Officers might have another job title, they are able to make sure you get an absolutely fantastic experience interning within the firm.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had an IT induction that trains us to use the facilities in the firm. I was trained on the spot on a daily basis by my team or buddy. They provided so much brilliant support I've felt the firm invested so much in me I really appreciate that and will come back for sure partly because of this.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Definitely going back to England next year to join as a full-time Associate. Got the contract the following money of the end of my internship. Really hope the Visa/sponsorship/entry clearance wouldn't be a problem as that's the only thing standing in the way of my joining EY London next year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. I made several really good friends from the placement and we went out for drinks after work almost everyday! Since I've never lived in London and didn't know anyone before, it was such a great opportunity to make friends and keep busy+enjoy my spare time! Oh and everyone's awesome!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I got a student dorm in a really dodgy part of London, but it was only 9 minutes away from London Bridge. It was very cheap even though I had the ask the security guard to walk me to my place every night. The area I worked in (London Bridge) was great, loads of pubs around. They are all really good!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • should be really good but the interns always organize to go somewhere else together in London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
