About You
It was a great learning experience, had the opportunity to network with people from various teams, learned about the various divisions, had some extremely useful case studies like the M&A one or the trading game. We were also given good tips on the interview process as well as various goodies.
We had plenty of opportunities to prove ourselves and provide value to the team and the overall performance of the Spring Week. Everyone we met from Barclays was nice and willing to answer all of our questions, none looked down on us in any way. We all felt very valued.
A lot of support was provided throughout from the HR team who was always there with us. All the various divisions introduced a lot of material to help understand their work better, accompanied by some form of exercise to apply the knowledge acquired run by multiple graduates who answered our questions.
As I am from a non finance degree I won't use the technical knowledge as much, however the presentation skills, oral communication, team work, networking and analytical skills are very much flexible and useful for any degree. Apart from that the ability to work with so much information quickly is useful.
The Company
All the divisions had presentations by a senior banker followed by an exercise run my multiple graduates who would provide a fresh insight into their day to day lives. There was a lot of things going on and we were almost always running out of time but it provides good understanding of what life in a bank is like. Barclays especially, compared to other banks I have interned at was much better organised, more time to learn everything.
It was definetly a good atmosphere, I really enjoyed being surrounded by many intelligent and driven young people my age who have already accomplished so much, as well as seniors who were really passionate about their jobs. I've made some amazing friends from all over the world which was fantastic for my networking.
The whole week was very well coordinated, we were well accommodates and looked after, we were always busy doing something, either during the day or preparing for our assignments in the evenings. They also provided great insight in terms of personal branding, public speaking and inspired me to think more about my future development in banking.
It was great learning so much about the Barclays culture and what makes it special. We had tours of the building that helped us understand the atmosphere and the day to day routine, all of the speakers told us about their commitments and their experience within Barclayson a day to day basis.
The company culture came across very clearly from the first day, a friendly nurturing environment based on integrity and commitment to their clients. It also came across well from all the speakers and graduates. It really made us feel like we could integrate really easy into that and enjoy our work.
I came in not knowing almost anything and came out knowing i wish to work in M&A. I would say the exercises and networking was extremely useful because you could test your abilities and make a well informed decision, as well as the specific mock interviews for all of us.
Everything Else
The networking was truly amazing, some fantastic people
They have clubs for various nationalities, LGBT community, a club for women in finance, etc
