About You
I had mixed feelings towards the insight week primarily because there wasn't a lot of integration with the other spring weekers. At other spring weeks they try to let you get to know each other so that you feel like a cohort.
I felt that HR were continuing to check up on us and do their best to see that we were having a fulfilling experience. If there were other teams we wanted to see they tried to facilitate this as best as they could. Additionally, whilst the team were busy they tried to take care of us.
Citi give you a buddy who is meant to look after you during your time. The aim of this is to have someone within your team to speak to when you face any difficulties/questions. They act as good support, however, given everyone is very busy it can be difficult to get answers if you're particularly confused.
The information I learnt is very applicable to the financial world and has given me a greater understanding into certain areas within the economy. In terms of skill set, my Excel skills have improved.
The Company
The Week with Citi was well structured to an extent - we knew exactly where we were meant to be at what times. However, in some ways it was too structured because we had no down time. For example, we were being presented at over lunch/dinner most days which made the spring week feel quite intense and again reduced integration between the cohort.
Given most of the spring week was spent shadowing the atmosphere was very team dependent. I liked the atmosphere on the floor - it was chatty and had a good buzz to it. There was a lot of collaborative working.
Everything Else
Accomodation was provided for me as well as breakfasts. In addition to this, when we were in the office, lunches and dinners were organised for us.
Yes - a lot of networking events and scope to meet new people. You could also reach out to employees by yourself to try and arrange a work shadowing.
We had a presentation on diversity and inclusion which explained the 11 affinity networks that Citi has available to join such as the Women's network, LGBT. Additionally, we heard about the CSR that Citi do - highlighting the opportunities to get involved with charity work such as mentor ship etc.
