Intern Review

It was a great opportunity to meet people from the company and learn about the culture, as well as how are things done from a technology point of view. I really enjoyed the way that the week was structured overall because it provided us with a good mix of desk shadowing time and talks.

My manager introduced the system that they were working on and the showed me how to produce code that is in accordance to the company's standards. Everyone was nice and welcoming and when it came to answering questions they would always make time for us and explain it in a very understandable way.

We were offered a lot of support during the week by the HR team and also by the people we were shadowing. At the end of the week we had to make a group presentation regarding a specific topic for which we were given a lot of help and guidance.

I believe the insight week helped me improve my communication skills and team work, which will be helpful for further team projects at university. It was useful to see how the programming languages that we are learning at university are use to build functional applications for all the areas in the business.

The overall structure was good. We were given breaks every few hours and the mix between talks and desk shadowing was better than other previous insight weeks that I have attended. We had diversity talks, networking events where we got to meet people from other departments and they were very open when asked if we could shadow different parts of the company, not just one.

They really knew how to make us feel part of the company, allowing us to make choices and always asking us for feedback in order to improve our experience. Whenever we left like we wanted to do something different they would take the feedback and implement it in our program.

They prepared us for the presentation that we were supposed to give at the end of the insight week and they made sure that we understand how a trade works, as well as what are the steps that we need to take in order to get a functionality added to an already existing system.

We were always part of the activities happening at the company and after hours and networking sessions we had the option of spending more time with people and even get involved in their day to day tasks. People were honest about the amount of work that needs to be done, the struggles, but also the good times that they had as part of the company.

Throughout networking events we got to see how open people are to sharing their experience with you and many even offered to take us for coffee or for shadowing at their desk, or in their departmemts in order to let us get a better understanding of the work culture at the company.

Because i apploed for a technology position, the insight week gave me a better understanding of how technology is vital to every department and is viewed as a key aspect in every process. I was able to find out about the different role available and all the possibilities in terms in traveling and working abroad.
