About You
I had a great time on my work experience as it gave me a proper insight into what I will be doing as my future career as an Actuary. Some aspects were boring but it was mostly enjoyable, especially interacting with fellow colleagues and clients that we were working with. It was fairly sociable as well which was really good.
As a work experience student, I felt as if they could have given me a few harder tasks. However, I understand that much of the work they undertake is private and confidential so there's not much I could help with. All in all, I was treated well and the senior figures constantly kept checking up on me to see how I was doing so that was nice.
I ended up just helping my colleagues as I felt that was more useful and 'real life'. They talking to me about future exams and training so that was helpful. I learnt many skills during my time at Aon Hewitt. We worked as a team at time which improved my team working skills. Additionally, I was responsible for some important documents which needed to be submitted before a certain deadline so I showed I could work under pressure and deliver when needed to. Hence, the role enabled my to develop that existing skill.
The Company
It was fairly well structured with them giving me a work experience pack where I was supposed to carry out a few tasks. However, I ended up just helping my colleagues as I felt that was more useful and 'real life'. They talking to me about future exams and training so that was helpful.
The general atmosphere during my insight was very good. All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. They were very insistent on making sure I was learning something and actually gaining something from the work experience which was really nice. The staff were also very social which was nice.
I certainly understand what it would be like to work at Aon. This is because it gave me a greater insight to the profession. I learnt many skills during my time at Aon Hewitt. We worked as a team at time which improved my team working skills. If you want to see what an Actuary does, this would be a perfect experience.
Everything Else
This was an unpaid work experience however I was reimbursed for travel and food which was really good and swift. The salary packages do look very good at Aon from a glance and I certainly will be applying there in the future as the salary does look high in comparison to other insurance firms.
The staff were very social. They were organising team bonding socials which seemed really fun. This was displayed to me in an upbeat Friday morning meeting. There were also network opportunities suggested to me during my work experience which was really cool and interesting. I will certainly be attending some in the future.

I certainly would. To get the work experience, email them and hopefully they will be able to accommodate you. There were no interviews or assessment days. When I was there, I was told that the application process was tough and rigorous and only the very best candidates are selected. They also said it would be helpful if you did a quantitative degree to help with the job so before you choose your degree, bear this in mind.
