About You
I enjoyed the insight at the Citi Bank to a certain extent. i was happy by the fact that I was able to acknowledge the work of bankers, and see what they did from day to day. I previously was not aware of the work life they would go through, so for me that was good.
This is one of the problems I experienced during my time there. Sometimes I felt like I was left feeling left in a corner. Maybe this might have been because they staff who were looking after me, were busy with their work. However I fully understand and respect why they would put their work first.
There was a decent level of guidance throughout my visit at Citi. Notably what stood out for me, was the willingness of staff to help me when I was stuck at doing something. This seemed to be a common theme amongst the workers, as they all told me they remember the time when they were a student.
This insight experience did help me understand more about the world of banking, but I feel like I should have made more from this experience. i believe that if the structure of the programme was better, then maybe this might have helped. The reason I feel this is because i noticed there was a degree of repetition in what I was doing.
The Company
The insight at Citi started off well, where the staff looking after me made sure I was experiencing something new and made sure i was having fun at the same time. However i felt after the third day, there started to be repetition in what I was doing. But like I said, for me as a student, this experience was truly amazing.
The atmosphere around the workplace was incredible, not sure if this is because I love banking. The willingness of the staff to go out their way to help me, was one of the things that stood to me. Even though they were on top of their work, I felt there were still chilled.
I think the Citi, especially the staff looking after me could have put more of an effort trying to improve my personal development. Although I was seeing what the bankers did, in terms of doing activities that would develop my personal skills wasn't really there. I believe this is something that should be incorporated.
Overall I can say the insight does show you what its like to work a global bank. I was able to understand what its like to be a banker, and the role you do to keep the bank running. I was also able to pick and realise the skills that were needed to do well.
The experience from the insight made appreciate the general culture of being a worker in this workplace. It felt really friendly with all the staff willing to help one another. It was also nice seeing the staff organising socials together, for when they have free time. Something to keep them relaxed when they are off work.
Overall the experience from this insight has been truly incredible. It was my first exposure to the world of banking, and I left feeling more interested about working at a place like this. After this insight, seeing the skills needed to be successful to be a banker, i was able to further enhance it through my extra-currical activities.
