The Role
The internship was really enjoyable, as it was an opportunity to try lots of new things and gain loads of new experiences. Interns are given every opportunity to learn, including extra training courses on top of what is already offered, so you come away with a huge wealth of knowledge.
At no point during this placement did I feel like 'the intern', and was always valued as an important part of the team. I was trusted with projects that had a real impact on the business and was always given the opportunity to take credit for my work.
There were many opportunities for support, and my manager was always ready to listen and help with any questions or concerns I may have had. Feedback sessions were given a large weighting, and I was clear throughout the year exactly where my strengths were and what I needed to work on at that moment in time.
The majority of people were very busy, and it was not uncommon to regularly miss taking a lunch break and work late. However, this is all out of choice and there was no pressure to do this, it simply depends on the standard you would like to reach and your workload at the time.
As an intern I was treated like a regular employee, and given projects that would actively make a difference to the business. There were also many opportunities to present and take full responsibility for any high profile projects, which meant there was a good amount of accountability in the role.
The training offered covered everything you would need to know, from digital marketing to excel skills. All of these skills, including learning how to present well and work within a team would be useful at university and any future careers. It also meant you are able to learn about other business areas if you would like to move to these in the future.
The Company
There was always a lot going on in the office, and people were always ready to celebrate someones birthday or have a chat over lunch. There were times where the atmosphere was slightly tense if something large was coming up, but this was only on rare occasions and actually seemed to help people focus.
Overall, the placement was run quite smoothly and it was always clear what the objectives of the placement were and how to reach these. There were a few fairly last minute changes to some processes, however these did not leave any negative effects and overall it was quite a seamless experience.
Every type of training that was available in the company was always offered to interns, and everyone was welcome to attend as many sessions as they wanted. There were also additional sessions run by the HR team in my division, which focussed on how to develop yourself and your career.

Working from home
As the organisation is so large, it is appealing to work there again for the depth of experience you could gain within one company. All of the different divisions and brands have a very different feel and experience, and as the company is quite flexible with role changes, it is possible to work across many different areas.
The Culture
The HR team to set up different representatives among the interns such as social secs and sport secs. This meant there were fairly regular socials throughout the year, which varied from club nights, drinks after work and a Christmas party, which was a good place for placement students to see each other outside of work.
The cost of socialising in Hammersmith was fairly average, as there was not a huge scene for nightlife so limited opportunities to socialise. There were a few really nice bars and pubs which were very standard London prices, and a selection of chain restaurants which were also what you would expect.
Whilst there was not a good nightlife scene in Hammersmith, it was always very good for drinks after work and had some nice local pubs and bars. It was a good place for socialising in the early evening, or if you felt like having a casual pub or cocktail night.
There was a running club and some sports societies, which were exclusive to interns, and there was also a yoga class run by the company every Wednesday evening. There was quite a good selection of options if you lived close to the office, however opportunities were more limited if you lived further away.
