    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed every minute so far! The work is extremely, very creative and I never have to do any basic admin tasks- which is very rare for a placement! I have been able to develop many different skills through the variations in work and have been able to strength previous weaknesses. It has been great fun!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like a valuable team member from the beginning. The team straight off the bat gave me large porjects atht would actually make a difference. I am seeing things I have done in high street store and on TV, so I feel like I have also now proved myself as a valuable team member.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support has been great! My team is behind me every step of the way. It is very different because all of my team members are international so it has really interesting teaching them about my culture and them doing the same to me! They have all provided lots of advice on my work and on into my future.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • a good level. I am never bored! Some days are hectic but exciting, and there is always something to do! You learn to time management straight from the beginning because it is a key part of your job. Around the timings of large meetings thigs can get extremely stressful but it is all worth it when the results are great! I would much rather be busy than quiet!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a lot of responsibility. I work autonomously on certain projects and I am trusted to make them work and manage them. I also work a lot in the team, but I am given my own responsibilities within these projects. I feel like I have made a difference in the business because of the amount of work I have be trusted with! I never expected to have this much responsibility and it is great!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Honestly speaking, I'm not sure how much my skills will help with the completion of my degree apart form time management and the insight I now have into the working world. However beyond university this job has given me so much experience. I understand so much more about the industry, the working work and business cultures will impact how I work when I leave. So yes it will assist me a lot when I re-join the working world.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • IT was very fun and easy going. You are always able to go and talk to others, not just in your direct team! It was reasonably causal but still professional. It is such a laugh but it is all dependent on your team! I just had a great team so atmosphere in the office for me really made me want to come to work because it was so enjoyable!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • L'oreal have done an outstanding job. Placing students into the correct teams and divisions must be a nightmare but they nail it! AS soon as I started I knew I was in the right place, the people I work with really complimented my personality and my division really suited my skill set! Throughout the year everything was very clearly managed and was very well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You can sign up to as many training as you want! You can do day trainings, week trainings, online course , or just hourly course. They develop learning plans for each individual and as an intern I felt extremely encouraged to use them! They are more than happy to invest in you and you can work on skills that you wouldn't usually get the chance to work on elsewhere e.g. photography.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    Sports and Social Club

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The next step after a placement is the grad scheme or newly developed Talent track. Both extremely appealing options if you wish to continue working in l'oreal. The MT scheme is very highly recommended and the new talent track system works great if you are looking for a more specific role. They do have something for everyone!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. We have entire committee that held events every few weeks. Everyone tried to socialise together an di have made some great friends. Everyone is in the same boat with being new to the company and the organisation do a great job of making sure everyone gets to know other people in the first few weeks.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The organisation is based in west London. So not particularly affordable but with a loan and the salary you can just about do it. The housing can be really nice though as long as you pick the right area and west London is a lot more affordable than other areas of London!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is very easy to get from the offices to central London so there are tonnes of clubs and bars everywhere. There is also a lot near as we are very close to Westfield which is now a social hub. There is definitely something for everyone which is great, and there lots of students as well. It can be expensive though.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not particularly. Sports-wise there was a good amount of different teams within the company and then intern sports teams as well. There are always some social events and going out with your team however there weren't really any more activities, although I'm not sure really what else they could do!
