About You
This my first ever longer than 1 week work experience so I was really scared at the start and was not sure whether there would be anythint I can do there but everyone was friendly and helpful and gave me a deeper insight into the firm and and its culture!
I started off just reading the reports that had been written by the people there so I was not being helpful to them at all but Once I settled in I was doing a few pieces of translations for them from korean to english and vice versa and few pieces of data which they used in their reports
Everyday, everyone was so busy that I kept my questions to myself but when I started asking questions people were more than happy to give me advice and assistence in how to approach various tasks I was given. Everyday I went for lunch with different people to get broad insight.
I developed so many skills especially as this being my first proper work experience. I definitely learned to be more confident and not be shy. This experience helped me with my communication and general ways to network in working environment. I was able to polish on my microsoft skills and analytical skills.
The Company
There was no structure as it was not an official programme but I was given a buddy who looked after me very well theough out the weeks and connected me to different people and took me into different meetings so I was able to see what day to day life is like
Because it is a big company and asian it was very busy all the time and people were always working sometimes until quite late. Nevertheless they were friendly and happy. Everyone got lunch times so they could go outside for fresh air for a stroll as it is located near lots of restaurants and attractions
I did not feel because it was not an official programme which the company holds, there was a structure or planning involved prior to me joinjng hence not much investment has gone in. But my buddy everyweek when he was available gave my some ppt snd training on what he does.
Because my buddy was a year into working at the company and I talked to a lot of his colleagues who joined the firm at the same time as he did, i was able to see what he thinks of the firm and the process of him securing thenfull time offer at the company
Because i was there for 4 weeks exactly, I was starting to see the culure of the firm - the firm itself does not promote friendly cuture but I could definitely witness friendless and happiness in the work environment. Everyone is very passionate and hard working and striving for excellence at all tkmes.
I definitely loved the experience and in terms of future career path, it made me want to go into a similar sector and saw myself doing something very similar in the future. Because I saw the broadly what its not though not in to too much depth it was great insight.
Everything Else
I was paid but travel was not reminbused. Pay was not competitive it was more of minimum I could get but I took this opportunity for the experience and learning rather than for the pay as the experience was invalueable jn exploring my options after university. I took the tube everyday.
Lots of opportunities! Almost everyday I was having lunch with different employee from a different desk. I was astonished to how mant different types of work there are in one department! Everyone seemed very busy but if you ask for a coffee chat they were so glad that I had asked
I got given so many one to one networking opportunities which was absolutely incredible because sometimes it can be difficult to carry a conversation with so many students surrounding one person. I had coffee chats and lunch networking opportunities to really get an insight of different opportunities that are being offered
There were not a lot as far as I am aware and I saw a lot of the employees going to the gym during lunch times or after work. There are some sports socieities and self development lectures that happen I think every month or fortnightly. They seemed to value their time at home too.
Definitely! I always feel that insights csnnot help you in a short time but every experiences I had in the end helped me great amount (i only always realised that few months after) in my university life and a lot when I am doing society works or other work experiences .
