The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship at Grant Thornton. Grant Thornton has great work environment, which the typical 'corporate' environment which I found to be extremely progressive, making it a great environment to work in. The on-the-job training meant I was able to get a lot out of this internship, developing many new skills!
I felt extremely well valued during my time at Grant Thornton, with my colleagues ensuring that I was treated as a respected and valued member of the team. I was giving meaningful work and the testing I completed was including in the full auditing report, that was presented to clients. This demonstrated that my work was well valued by the firm.
I was well supported throughout my time at Grant Thornton. I was appointed a contact manager, who sat away from my team, meaning I could contact them for independent support. My line manager was equally supportive, acting as a guiding hand throughout my time at the firm and I could always turn to my team for support.
For the duration of the internship, I was very busy. I always had work to be doing and as I wanted to demonstrate my abilities and dedication to the internship programme, I would always look for additional work I could get involved in. This was a great way to learn as much as possible and I was never bored during my time here!
I was pleasantly surprised by the level of responsibility I was given throughout the internship. As mentioned, the work I did was included in the client auditing report and I was able to work independently on these piece of work, liaising with the client directly. The work I was doing was similar to the work associates do, demonstrating how much responsibility I was given.
Throughout this internship, I gained and developed new skills and knowledge, which will undoubtedly benefit me in my degree and future career. I vastly developed my understanding and knowledge of auditing and developed the skills needed to succeed in this field. In addition to this, I developed many transferable skills, such as communication and leadership skills
The Company
There was a nice atmosphere in the offices at Grant Thornton. Although it wasn’t a ‘wild party’ office, there was a very serene environment which made it a pleasant experience going into work each day. As auditing is a client-facing role, many people would work away from the office, but there was always enough people in to socialise with.
The internship programme was very well organised overall. My first day consisted of a through induction sessions, where we spent time learning more about the day-to-day operations of the firm and the various different departments that make up the organisation. The Graduate Recruitment Team were very proactive, organising talks and training sessions for us throughout the internship.
There were quite a few online modules to be completed throughout the internship, such as one on fraud and corruption. As well as this, the interns and I completed a one day confidence in presenting module put on by Grant Thornton which greatly improved my presentation skills. Finally, we also learnt a lot about audit from the work we did for our clients.

I was offered an Associate role at the end of this internship and I am really excited to begin my career at Grant Thornton!
The Culture
There was a really great scene on this placement programme! Grant Thornton organised three social events for us, where we were able to meet not only other interns but also associates and more senior colleagues. My team was also social and we went out for drinks with clients, providing a good networking opportunity. At the end of each month, specific departments organised drinks, which was a great way to meet new people.
For the duration of the internship, I was based in Central London, which is obviously an expensive area to live and socialise in. I was lucky enough to be able to live at home, which meant I was able to save some money. However, the salary is generous enough to be able to live and socialise in the area.
Great nightlife!
