The Role
I really enjoyed working for Hays. The time has flown by and I can't believe it has already been nearly a year since I first started. I enjoyed going to work every day and will really miss my colleagues and working life. I will most definitely be back next year.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I didn't feel like an intern whatsoever and felt like a normal consultant from the moment I started. I have become very close with my colleagues, probably due to the number of group incentives and trips we have done as a team. It is the colleagues I will definitely miss the most.
My manager and director have been incredible at Hays, and are probably the remain reason why I want to come back. I was constantly praised for good work and given constructive criticism when I needed to improve something. The managers at Hays are outstanding and I was constantly made to feel valued.
I would say I was quite busy on a daily basis, with some major busy days during my internship. We were given an outline of what I was suppose to do at what time of the day so it was very easy to make a plan and stick to a schedule.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was really treated like any other consultant so was working on my own desk, with my own candidates and clients. No one at Hays did the same job as me so there was no one to fall back on.
If I'm honest I don't think my internship will have that much effect on my degree. The internship wasn't technical so cant really bring it into my studies. The only thing it may help me with is my confidence and the ability to work in a team when doing group projects.
The Company
There is a great atmosphere in the office with everyone constantly cheering you on which enabled you to want to do well. We had numerous meetings where we would applaud each other for the work we have been doing and offer guidance and help in order each other reach our fee targets.
The internship was very well organised. I went straight from my phone interview to a face to face, where a week later I was at the assessment centre and a week after that I got the job! That is what attracted me to the job in the first place - how professional my recruitment process was.
Training was essential. When I first started I had a months worth of training which included role plays and didn't techniques. After I was there for a month they sent me to a different office for a week where I had a full weeks training with interns from all over the country.
I definitely want to come back to Hays due to the fact the career progress prospects are fantastic ay Hays. If I came back, I could get a promotion within 2 months which is really attractive for me. After 9 months there is then another opportunity to have another promotion.
The Culture
The social scene at Hays is great. If we hit target we get free drinks at the pub and we get monthly team incentives where we go bowling or go for drinks. Everyone at Hays gets involved in these nights out and pub evenings which means its a really good opportunity to mingle with fellow colleagues.
The cost of living where I worked is extremely expensive which is why I chose to live at home. However travelling into London every day is also very expensive and honestly, if I got the opportunity to work closer to home or not in central London I would. It is generally very expensive in central London.
The nightlife isn't great in the area that I worked however it is easy to get any where on a tube from London Victoria. However there are a few nice bars in Victoria that I would go to once in a while. Generally I would not go out there though.
Like mentioned before there were a few incentives where we would go bowling or we would go for drinks. I do think we could go on a couple more outside activity as this would be really good for the team and means people would get to mingle in a different environment.
