The Role
My placement with Aldi has been a life changing experience . The exposure and responsibility I have been given has been amazing. I have been given access to all departments within Aldi. Been provided with a mentor to provide advice and feedback throughout my placement. I have been given projects that have been of real benefit to the business. Overall it has been such a varied placement. Aldi has helped me improve my communication , leadership and team working skills.
Aldi employees make you feel very valued . I truly believe that all management within Aldi, really appreciate the work Industrial placement students do. That is why we are given projects , that provide the company with vital information. We are trusted and if we work hard we can be given a great deal of responsibility.
All Industrial placement students have mentors. These mentors provide guidance and help with the initial stages of the role. They also provide any feedback through the process . By having a mentor it means , there is someone to ask if your not sure about a situation or just need some advice.
Being on placement with Aldi is very busy. That is a good thing, you are never bored. You always have a clear task and a deadline and that keeps you motivated and focused. I love the pace of the Aldi placement.
In Aldi you are given as much responsibility as you are willing to take . When you are in store, there is the opportunity to do a Store Manager cover if you work hard enough . Aldi is fantastic at giving responsibility and trusting placement students to do very important project work.
Working for Aldi has really improved my communication skills and I feel when I go back to University I will be so much better at presentation work. I will have the confidence to stand up in front of an audience and present confidently. The quality of work we are expected to complete has really helped me improve my spelling and grammar.
The Company
In Aldi there is a very professional atmosphere . Everyone is very friendly and always happy to help. But everyone is extremely focused and this leads to the office having a very productive atmosphere.
The placement was very well organised. All placement students had clear plans and a set structure for our training . Every week you knew exactly where you would be and what you were doing . Holidays were organised far in advance , so allowed you to plan to go abroad if you wanted to.
The company really does invest in you. You have a set training plan and store managers and assistant managers dedicate time to train you on all areas of store. You are also given time with your mentor , to be given training about the Area Manager role.
Above 25 days holiday
My final interview is in a few weeks time . Which is where I will be told if I can return in the graduate scheme. You are given feedback and have updates with your direct leader throughout the placement . So you are given clear feedback on your progress and areas to improve.
The Culture
We would meet up as placement students and go for dinner and social events like that . There was an academy event where all placement students across the UK met up.
I lived at home for half my placement . Then the other half I stayed in a B and B , because the commute was just too far. The B and B was very reasonably priced.
I didn’t tend to go out much after work . Just because I didn’t really want to go out , when working the next day . I wasn’t far from a large city . So there was plenty of bars and restaurants.
There was a netball team. I played rugby and was active in young farmers , so I didn’t really pursue doing activities outside of work through Aldi. I have quite a busy social life anyway, so wasn’t bothered about doing anything else.
