The Role
I really enjoyed Hays because it felt more like a job than an "internship". I was treated the same as everyone else and given real targets to work to. The culture is extremely sociable and there is always something to get involved in.
My team was very supportive and answered any questions I had. They actively listen and everyone is so encouraging and genuinely want you to do well.
I had weekly team meetings with my manager which allowed me to review my performance and address any concerns. They made sure there was lots of opportunities for me to get involved in which broadened my experience during my time at Hays.
The majority of the time I was busy on a day to day basis, albeit some days could be quieter than others. However there are a number of activities you can do to fill out your day including interviews, client meetings and general duties.
I was treated exactly the same as the other recruitment consultants and so I felt as though I had great levels of responsibility. I was often left to my own devices however there was always help there if I needed it.
During my time at Hays I have developed a strong work ethic, excellent transferable skills and a good sense of what the working world is like. My people skills in particular have progressed which will be really useful for me after leaving University. I learned how to communicate with a variety of different people and build important relationships. This will be key for my career in Business management.
The Company
The atmosphere at Hays is very lively and sociable. There are often activity days going on where everyone gets involved in competitions - all good fun!
The internship is very well thought out. They have a clear programme which explains what kind of things you will cover and the skills you will gain from this. The training is second to none and we have intern catch ups which allow us to feedback on how we think the internship could be improved.
It is very clear Hays have invested a lot into or training and development. I went on a number of training sessions including a training week where I got to stay away and meet other interns from across the country. I regularly received refresher training too
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Future employment prospects are really exciting at Hays. There are various routes for you to go down to suit your skills and preferences.
The Culture
There was not a particular social club set up solely for interns. However there is a good social scene across the whole of the office. There is a wrap up every four weeks which has a great atmosphere and everyone goes out for drinks after.
I lived at home for my year in industry so the cost of living was extremely low. The costs of socialising can vary - just depends on how much you get involved in!
The nightlife in Manchester is great. There are endless options for drinks and nights out.
There are some activities outside of work such as sports teams and events/activities for the charity we support. However there is not lots of things to get involved in.
