The Role
Enjoyed the work and people I was working with. Learned a lot about areas I didn't know about and how I could progress in the company.
At first obviously I didn't know much but once I got to grips with the work, it felt like I was another member of the team
Management and work colleagues gave support and guidance when they saw fit and also if I asked for something they would help immediately
Some days I wouldn't stop and other days I wouldn't do much but that was the nature of the job
I was in charge of several projects for engine testing that needed to be complete on deadline otherwise testing couldn't be done and the company would lose out on a lot of money. I was supervised in this to make sure I got it done but it was all down to me
I have a lot more hands on skill now so that will help massively as I am now aware of how things go together and designing
The Company
Very relaxed atmosphere where we could have a laugh but also we knew when to do our work
I was the first placement student in my department so obviously there would be difficulties. I didn't have any projects setup for me when I started and got them whenever something came up that my manager thought was appropriate
I didn't go on any training courses however they were available for me
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
I would like to come back to Cummins however they are very vague if I'm coming back or not
The Culture
I got along with all placement students and we had many nights out between us all. Also going for days out and activities together
It was close to home so I stayed with my parents. It is quite cheap compared to city prices
Darlington doesn't have the best night life but as students we arranged to go places like Newcastle and Durham together every so often
There were several activities for outside work. I'm a big football player so I played on a Tuesday and Thursday night with work
