    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed the work and people I was working with. Learned a lot about areas I didn't know about and how I could progress in the company.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At first obviously I didn't know much but once I got to grips with the work, it felt like I was another member of the team

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management and work colleagues gave support and guidance when they saw fit and also if I asked for something they would help immediately

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I wouldn't stop and other days I wouldn't do much but that was the nature of the job

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was in charge of several projects for engine testing that needed to be complete on deadline otherwise testing couldn't be done and the company would lose out on a lot of money. I was supervised in this to make sure I got it done but it was all down to me

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have a lot more hands on skill now so that will help massively as I am now aware of how things go together and designing

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed atmosphere where we could have a laugh but also we knew when to do our work

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was the first placement student in my department so obviously there would be difficulties. I didn't have any projects setup for me when I started and got them whenever something came up that my manager thought was appropriate

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I didn't go on any training courses however they were available for me

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to come back to Cummins however they are very vague if I'm coming back or not

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I got along with all placement students and we had many nights out between us all. Also going for days out and activities together

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was close to home so I stayed with my parents. It is quite cheap compared to city prices

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Darlington doesn't have the best night life but as students we arranged to go places like Newcastle and Durham together every so often

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were several activities for outside work. I'm a big football player so I played on a Tuesday and Thursday night with work

    4/5
