The Role
I have really enjoyed my time with IBM. I have been involved in so many different projects for a range of large clients and have my voice heard within discussions and client meetings.
In almost every meeting I have attended, I have been asked my opinion and thoughts on the discussions. Moreover, IBM encourages feedback to be requested and provided, and having received plenty of feedback it is clear how the team has valued my inputs.
The biggest thing to take away from IBM is to ask questions and 'there is no such thing as a silly question'. Everyone is so keen to help others develop and learn. People at IBM would rather you ask questions than sit and struggle.
On my team, I was lucky enough to be cross industry and cross line of business. This meant I had a lot of people to go to if I was struggling to find something to do. I think the key thing is to be able to proactively get involved with as much as you feel you can.
When you join IBM, you are straight away involved in the team and take on responsibility for your work. I was given control of maintaining reports for Industry leaders, keeping microsites up to date and arranging banners for stands at client meetings and innovation days.
Due to my year at IBM, I have actually changed one of my final year units. I decided to change on to a consulting elective to be able to continue to develop the skills for a future career in consulting.
The Company
I always enjoyed coming to work, everyone is always friendly and smiling. There was never a bad feeling, coming in to the office.
The structure of the placement was one of the major reasons why I chose it. It has not disappointed, the support available throughout from both my team and the EPMs has been amazing. If you ever need something they will find you the help you need, should they not be able to help.
The placement from my perspective is designed to encourage personal training and development of skills. IBM has the YourLearning app which encourages learning and skill development.

I plan to apply back to IBM on the graduate scheme and hope that I will be successful and be able to continue on my journey and career within IBM.
The Culture
There was always the opportunity to go out, and make friends with other interns. We also had the Christmas boat party, arranged by fellow interns. Which was a great night and amazing way to network with more interns.
I lived from home, so cost of living was nothing. Cost of travel on the other hand was not so cheap! Socialising on the other hand is not overly expensive but really depends where you go.
From the few times, I ventured out it was a good social area around Southbank. The only reason I did not go out that often was due to fact I had a long commute to and from home, which meant if I stayed too late I would not be home until very late hours.
There are countless emails about activities that you can get involved in outside of work. Also with IBM you can join social event and sports clubs, I was invited to Hursley Fest, which was focused on sports teams and encouraging people to join clubs.
