The Role
Pernod Ricard as a company creates a welcoming and convivial environment which puts you at ease from the beginning. As I have developed in my role my team have given me my own responsibilities and the space to organise my work day and tasks. There are always really great activities going on from run club to tasting a new edition of one of our brands. As the HR intern I got to interact with people from all corners of the company.
Very valued! The team have made me feel like I was a great asset to them as well as my line managers. As time has gone on I have been involved on larger, more complex tasks which has shown how much my team value and trust my input.
I have had monthly 1-2-1 meetings with my line managers where we sit, discuss and review my personal progression as well as plan work for the future to ensure I always have things on the radar. I sit very close to both of my managers which is great as you I have and could always as for help or guidance when needed.
The vast majority of the time I have had enough work to fill my day. The key to this role is being proactive, due to the freedom given by my line managers there will be a few times a week where you have to be forward thinking and get on with work that you may not have necessarily been delegated.
Alot! The role is split into two sections: learning and development and human resources. In Learning and Development I was primarily responsible for the organisation/logistics behind the training events, monthly reporting and the new starter journey. In HR the role I was responsible for the creation of contracts, invoicing, producing and publishing 'In the KNOW' (our HR communication magazine) and general weekly and monthly reporting.
Without a doubt both your soft and hard skills will increase in this role. In this role my attention to detail has improved which will help with coursework so has my emotional intelligence which helps in all aspects of life. The skills you will develop in the role include but are not limited to excel skills, basic reading and writing skills, interpersonal skills, time management and many more, which not only help with your degree but even more will help you in your future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very friendly, welcoming and convivial. In the communal areas people are usually very friendly and willing to engage in conversation. The HR team have a separate office, but the walls are glass so very light! With only seven of us in the HR office it creates an atmosphere filled with great banter and support in your role as it is easy for you to communicate and ask your team questions.
I was the first HR intern as time as gone on my role has slightly changed from what we first expected. However, you will not be the first one so it is highly likely that you will have processes and a better understanding of what your daily tasks will look like. Overall although the responsibilities in my role did vary and develop it is a benefit that the team are not too rigid and allow you to take initiative and think of new tasks that can develop you in your role.
Throughout the year there have been many training and development events which being the HR intern you will gain insight and a better understanding of how they work and what is discussed which is great. We also have alot of online resources that available 24/7 for you to use.

Very appealing! Without a doubt I would love to go back and work at Pernod Ricard UK, the company is extremely dynamic and agile. PRUK offer a great post-grad schemes with alot of opportunity for progression.
The Culture
All the interns this year have got on really well. We regularly have lunch together or go out for a meet up after work. The Company is great as you do not have to always just sit with interns and it is not frowned upon for an intern to socialise with other colleagues.
Chisiwck is zone 3 and I live in zone 3, the cost of living is not too bad and what you would/should expect living, socialising and working in London. If you need to reduce your cost it is quite easy to find cheaper events to attend with friends, if you are renting trying to find a place closer to work where you can spend less or nothing on travel are a few ways to cut costs.
There is no nightlife really in Chiswick, however, it is very easy to commute closer to the heart of London where a you can imagine there is alot to do.
Yes! With the Private Medical Insurance you receive 50% off at Virgin Active, Nuffield and David Lloyds which is great as you can go to the gym and join their activities. The Company building is located on Chiswick Business Park which also holds great activities from netball games to bonfire nights to outdoor cinemas.
