The Role
I really enjoyed my placement, I was given a lot of responsibility within the role and which is really important in building confidence in my marketing and professional ability. I know now that I want to stay in marketing and really believe Pfizer is a great company to work for.
I have felt really valued by my colleagues. I have got involved in a lot of different projects and am brought in on various meetings making me feel that my opinion is valued and my input to the project is useful. I feel very lucky to be a part of this team.
My manager and whole team are very supportive. The only barrier I have to getting support is that my manager is very busy, so I have to be fairly independent. He will always provide support when needed. As my placement has gone on I have become less reliant on my manager and have branched out and now work with multiple people within the team.
I have had times where I am very busy. I have had to learn to deal with this and prioritise the most important tasks. I now feel pleased that I have enough to do to fill my days and put less pressure on myself to complete tasks straight away and am more comfortable with providing realistic timelines, making the work far less stressful.
I have been given a lot of responsibility. For example, organising london underground campaigns, project managing disease awareness campaigns, updating materials and getting market research materials through approval. This has led to me acquiring a broad range of skills and has kept the placement varied and interesting. At the start of the placement this was quite scary, but now I really appreciate the freedom.
The skills I have developed will help in my degree in that I am a lot more organised in my approach and will be more confident in approaching lecturers with any questions. It will help in my future career as I hope to stay in marketing and possibly Pfizer, so having the strategic and functional knowledge will accelerate my development.
The Company
The Pfizer office is fairly relaxed, it doesn't feel too formal. My team has a good atmosphere where people are happy to chat, but also a lot of the time people are out at meetings or getting on with work. It helps to have a good balance and a productive feel.
Very well. There are over 50 interns so the scheme is very well established and set up. At the same time in my role I am made to feel part of the team and not labelled as an intern. I feel enough training is given for interns to make the most of their opportunity and be given responsibilities.
Pfizer invests a lot in it's interns. There are loads of training opportunities that we can access just as easy as the managers within the business. From marketing, to digital, to leadership and presentation skills, there are opportunities to upskill. This is so valuable and makes us work more efficiently.

Working from home
There is a graduate scheme, which would be a year in sales and a year in marketing. There are also some interns who in previous years have been re-recruited for a job. I feel through being an intern here I am far more likely to subsequently get onto the grad scheme.
The Culture
Very good as there are 50+ students and so we meet up reasonably often, have lunch together and it creates a lovely atmosphere. The barrier to this is that the site is not very accessible, meaning it is difficult to meet up after work. It would be nice to have a train station.
Cost of living is high and I'm living in Epsom which isn't very sociable. The benefit of it is that it is very accessible. However, the office is not so I have to drive in to work. It would be nice to be able to get the train into work.
Not great. If we want a good night out we would have to get the train to London and Uber home. There are also clubs in Epsom, but we don't tend to go to them. There are enough people to have parties though and so it is still fun on the weekends.
Through work there are lunchtime actvities, such as football and running club. However, there is not a lot to do through the company outside of work. I am a part of the Epsom tennis club and I know others involved in activities outside of work, so there is enough around nearby.
