The Role
My placement year was very enjoyable and provided a really good experience of working life. There was a lot more responsibility given than I expected which was challenging but rewarding. The company treats it's employees very well and the company culture made the working environment very relaxing and enjoyable to work in.
Interns are definitely appreciated and valued as a member of the team at L'Oréal. Every member of the business I reached out to during my internship, whether it was to ask questions about their role or even just to understand another area of the business, everyone was extremely accommodating and willing to help.
The managers I have were very supportive but there were a lot of changes and rotations made during my internship which was difficult to cope with. Each of my managers had a very different style of managing and the majority of them were very supportive. One manager was very selective of the times they would show support and I think they would benefit from more training in how to manage interns.
The start of my internship was a lot busier than the end. Towards the end of my internship I was able to complete admin tasks fairly quickly which meant I had more time for project work. This was very beneficial but the lack of urgency made it seem like I was less busy.
I took on a lot more responsibility in between one manager leaving and the other starting which was an amazing learning experience but also quite challenging for only being in the role a few months. I took on tasks that would usually be completed by my superior and networked with people I wouldn't usually have spoken to.
My organisation skills are definitely something I will take back to my studies as I now know I am able to take on multiple task at once. I will also take my presentation skills back to university and to my future career as this was something I worked on with some of the best presenters in the business.
The Company
The company culture and atmosphere in the office was very relaxed. The dress code was very unrestrictive and felt inclusive of everyone's different styles.
The placement seemed very well organised and every training course set up for us was very beneficial to the internship and to our general skills.
I received a lot of different trainings, both compulsory and non compulsory which I found very enjoyable.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
They provide a lot of different options for future employment which seem promising. Even if unsuccessful when leaving the business there are still opportunities later in your career to come back to the company.
The Culture
The social scene is great and there are a lot of events on offer throughout the year.
London is expensive
London has great nightlife and a lot of options but not in Hammersmith.
I thought there would be more opportunities, like sports clubs but there were a few different options to choose from.
